my 2nd grade DD (will be 8 in June) is in the gifted program at school for english and math this year. She enjoys both but has recently started to say she really doesn't like math, that it is too hard. I want to nip this in the bud before it leads to too much frustration with math and then other subjects. A couple of friends recommended Kumon. I asked DD if she wants math help this summer and she said yes very quick even if it means doing school work all summer.
Tonight, she doesn't have any homework so she asked me to make up math problems for her to do. "anything but subtraction" she says. She wanted fractions, division, multiplication .... She says subtraction is why she thinks math is too hard.
So, do I go the Kumon route for math in general or find some way to specifically help her with subtraction?
