Kroger vs Publix

Thank you all very much and special thanks too to HHI Disney for starting an account to answer this question :)

All, I chose Kroger. In the end, I'm not purchasing meat although I did get fruit (full watermelon, strawberries and peaches). Everything else is basically processed, besides the eggs so it should be fine since I don't have to go into the store and the prices, as you all have said, were much better than Publix. HHIDisney, thank you for letting me know about the new Kroger. Perhaps that is where they will do my shopping since I'm at Spinnaker, down the street from Coligny.

Thank you all!

Fresh market is also very nice and upscale! At least it is here in Atlanta.

I shop at both Kroger and Publix. I would be fine ordering from either of them.

As many have said, Publix is great but Kroger is just as great. Publix is much higher priced than Kroger. I've shopped at both and both have been very pleasing. I worked for Publix when I was growing up and it's an exceptional company. Quite frankly, you CAN'T go wrong with either of them. If you want to safe a few bucks then Kroger is your bet.

I shop at both plus Aldi and Costco.

Publix and Kroger both have pluses and minuses and you can't go wrong with either.

Publix has the edge on "fresh" items, especially bakery and produce.
Kroger has the edge on variety, much bigger plus lots of levels of store brands Publix falls short on and it's cheaper.

If something is on sale at Kroger for Buy 1 Get 1 Free ... you can buy one and it rings up half price.
If something is on sale at Publix for Buy 1 Get 1 Free ... I have to buy two to get the price, but their stuff is often buy 2 get 1 free.

Hilton Head Kroger is very new and where I shop when I go to HH. But again either should be just fine. Fresh Market is good, good quality fresh stuff, but not cheap and less variety of staple items.

If you are ever in Texas, H-E-B is the best place to shop. No discount card required which is why we love it plus their store brand is great and they treat their employees really well.
I hate shopping out of town because we don’t have the discount cards and the price is jacked up when you don’t have one.

I have Publix and Kroger to choose from. I will generally choose Publix, the store is nicer and the fresh meats and produce are nicer looking. My other reason is Publix treats their employees better, my daughter worked for Kroger and my son still works for Publix. Even when he was part time through college he was able to put money into a 401k and was able to purchase health insurance(it was still cheaper to have him on ours, but it was available). Now that he has graduated and decided to make it a career they put into a training program to help on the way to management. My daughter worked with Kroger all the way through Pharmacy school (in the Pharmacy) and often had a hard time working around her school schedule and when she graduated it was"you need to be off the payroll by then end of June. Never had the option of insurance of 401k. Many other small things I saw over the years.

I live in Atlanta (North Marietta/Kennesaw) and shop at Publix weekly. I can't bring myself to go into Kroger after the bad ones we had in Dearborn, MI fifteen years ago...lol.

Anyway, when I lived on the other side of Atlanta (Tucker) my Publix had THE BEST customer service. Friendly, remembered me week to week, fresh food, etc. Fast forward to now. I think I shop at the absolute worst Publix. Slow service, never enough lanes open, hard to find help, more often than not I end up bagging my own groceries..basically everything against what they are known for. At least once a month, I have to ask the butcher to go find me chicken because what they have out is dated the day I am shopping. For example, this past Saturday, August 3rd I wanted a whole chicken. They were all dated August 3rd. I have been sold bad chicken too often over the years to risk that. They act like you are bothering them. Two weeks ago, I had to show the produce manager that the white nectarines that were the special that week, had mold on them (multiple) and fruit flies. I know I should stop going there, but it is one mile away. I fill in the gaps at other stores. I should probably complain to corporate!

Hey neighbor. We are up in Acworth. Love our Publix up here. Which one are you shopping at? I am going to guess Baker Road?

Hello! Barrett Parkway and Old 41. It is an older, smaller store, which I am fine with. My store in Tucker was old too. I prefer the smaller footprint.

I just feel it is not a good Publix. When you cut out their superior service and quality, it does seem over priced.

I always forget about that one. Have you tried the one on Hwy 41 at Jiles road?
