Krispy Kreme in Kitchener Closing????

Wow that's news! I'm surprised to hear that..........haven't been to the Kitchener KK but we were just at the KK in Mississauga just 10 hours ago!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

My DB lives about a 2 minute drive from there and we were out to dinner with them last night and on the way home we always have to make a pit stop at KK but actually we were kind of surprised that there was only 2 cars at the drive thru and not as many folks inside as it is normally at that time........hmmmmm wonder what's up.

Oh well at least I have my KK fix (2 dozen!;) ) and actually I think I'll try freezing them to see if they'll keep.;)

It's so funny as everytime my DB and DSIL would come to our house for dinner they always brought a bottle of wine or a bouquet of flowers etc., but ever since KK went in near them we always get a 24-pack!:p .........and usually a bottle of wine too!;)

I will be glad to sign a go Timmies Go campain hehehe not to fond of the KK donuts after having them in Georgia.

[donning flame-retardant suit] :p

At my peril, I'm wading into this debate. I've had KK donuts on numerous occasions and my reaction has always been "not bad, but nothing special". Does KK exert some unseen force over the very nature of my being? No. I don't think some of the posters to this thread can make that same claim.

KK in Kitchener might be closing. That's too bad. The KK in London may not get built? Well, can't miss what we never had. Listen up, people. It's a donut! Get a life!!.

Wait.... wait.... I feel as if a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I should have done this months ago. :teeth:

[Removing flame-retardant suit. There's a smog warning today, dontcha know, and these things are hot.]

Well said Mike and you are right is is after all just a donut and personally I could live without them even from Timmies.

London Krispy Kreme

I live down the street from the proposed location. Digging started today. The giant cement sewer blocks have "Krispy Kreme" written on them, so unless there's been a drastic change in plans, I'd say it's a go.

It's on the corner of Southdale and Wonderland, between a Wendy's and an LCBO, in front of a Loblaws, with a Tim Horton's across the street.

Curious. DS and I just returned from the driving range at Wally World and I saw no signs of any construction on that site. I'll have to have another look the next time I'm down there.

Mike -

I was at the Wally World driving range this morning and there was lots of digging going on between the LCBO and Wendy's. They had those big yellow scooping thingys - unless the heat was causing an optical illusion!

I was at the Loblaws today and saw nothing at all hmm wonder whats up could be something fishy going on here

I'm going to Loblaws this morning. I will take a digital picture and post it on my disboards photo site.

I can see this easily degenerating (oops, too late  ) into a "he said, she said"-style debate with the pro-KK forces of evil doing battle with the anti-KK defenders of truth, justice, and the Canadian way (i.e. Timmies :teeth: ).

I actually didn't get down to WW until about 3:40 yesterday afternoon, and the construction guys may have knocked off for the day by then, anyway. Once you get the photo (assuming it wasn't a heat-induced mirage ;) ) make sure you post the link here. Inquiring minds want to know!!

London Krispy Kreme Update

It lives!

I took the photo. It's not really worth posting as it's just a bunch of dirt mounds and holes, but I'll be happy to email it to anyone and if there is a demand I will post it. There isn't a Krispy Kreme sign yet. The cement sewers have been buried.

I asked a construction worker what they were building and he said, "Krispy Kreme donuts." That's good enough for me.

Today they were levelling and surveying, working mostly in the basement areas. There was no heavy equipment and they are very little building materials yet. So I'd say it'll be a few months until the first taste.

It's funny how these rumours get going. There's also a rumour on these boards that the Animal Kingdom is closing. Of course, it's always someone who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone...

I'm beginning to think this is an "urban legend" too.

Dh went to KK in Kitchener on his way home from work yesterday and picked up an assortment of donuts and asked if there was any truth to their closing. The answer was "NO".

BTW he also brought some Key Lime flavoured ones. Yummy, I thought. There is a graham cracker crumble mixture on top and the filling is like a custard. Sort of like a Key Lime pie/donut combined. I'm off to eat the last one now! :bounce:

I love Key Lime!

I wonder if Krispy Kreme will ship donuts down for the construction workers, or if they'll have to go to the Tim Horton's across the street? :)

LOL wtg2000, I just had an image of boxes of Timbits sitting beside Tim's coffees as the workmen erect the KK sign! Thanks for the detective-work about the London KK shop, too! ;)

Guess what the Teachers are getting today!LOL;)

Oh Yeah, they did not have the Key Lime Flavoured ones but they had them in the back without the crunchies on top! I told the woman, I have to have them, crunchies or not! So she gave me two for free to try!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Guess what I'm having for breaky this morning!

Gotta go, got a Donut with my name on it!

Regarding Timmies, I would rather eat rocks!LOL
Those things are so heavy!:p

Found this USA Today article from May 27th:

Big three are: Dunkin Donut, Tim Hortons and yes
KK
How the Big Three are growing:
QUOTE

"•Krispy Kreme. One of Krispy Kreme's keys to success is convincing consumers it's not just for breakfast. More than half its sales are between noon and midnight, says CEO Scott Livengood.

The chain will add 77 stores in the next year. In June, it will open its first store in Australia and later this year, in the United Kingdom.

Its doughnuts are mostly calorie-laden. But its glazed doughnut has fewer calories than a bagel and cream cheese, says Livengood. "We've never called ourselves a health food and don't pretend to be."

The KK in KW is right across the street from Timmies right?
They both seem to be doing quite well.
