Kraftmaid Cabinetry

Six years ago we redid our kitchen and the remodeler favored Kraftmaid cabinets. We did maple that was painted bisque. Now I want to install the same (well similar) cabinets in our family room as a bookcase on one wall and an entertainment center on the other wall. The cabinet pricing was 1/2 of what we spent on 4X the amoutn of cabinets 6 years ago.

My question- is there any way for me to price these on my own. With the one cabinet store I am using, I have to call for every change and ask if we change this cabinet for this cabinet, what is the price difference? That is a big pain. It would be much easier if I could get cabinet prices online.

At our local lumber store, they gave me their old, outdated cabinet catalog so I could figure out what sizes and finishes, etc. that I wanted and had an idea of the price. The prices were not the same as the store charged (they discounted 40% from the current catalog price) but it was easy to see the prices relative to each other.

This local lumber store sold a better grade of KraftMaid cabinets than the big box store and the prices were significantly better. May be worth a try?

This actually is a local lumber store. But he didn't offer a catalog with prices. And every time I call his secretary sounds annoyed.

Kraftmaid is carried by Lowes thru their special order. My DH just ordered quite a few cabinets for a job he did and they priced them for him by the cabinet and he has a price list for any additional.

We got our Kraftmaid cabinets thru Home Depot, we knew the pricing because we had to stay in budget, we were doing a rebuild after a major house fire so we had to keep our pricing in line with what was there before the fire. Our Home Depot guy gave us a book with pricing in it so I would suggest asking there or Lowe's. We love our cabinets, they are thru-out the house (kitchen and living room) and they look great!

I will ask at HD and Lowes for a price book. I can't stand when someone acts like they are doing you a favor when in reality you are the one will be purchasing the items.

I called a little while ago to ask the price difference between a furniture base, a pantry cabinet, and a base cabinet with a furniture book shelf top- all in 24 inch wide. The secretary acted like this would be the biggest, longest, hardest job in the world for this very busy salesman.

Is the salesman acting this way also? If so, I would definitely be taking my business elsewhere. If it's just the secretary, I would make sure that the salesman and the store manager know exactly what is going on. He might be losing sales (possibly commission too) and not know why.

It's unfortunate she is giving you a hard time. You could try asking for pricing at home depot or lowes- just talk to the rep a bit before you start. Some of them are picky about following a certain order, and some of them will actually give you information. You want to talk to the person who really knows cabinets... not the formerly retired lady who is just looking for a job... Home depot was trying to refuse to give me any actual pricing without a deposit. (the deposit included measuring)

To be fair though, I sell casework for a living and it can be a bit of a hassle to look at all the pricing because every cabinet can have so many options that you have to look up, and then discounts are different for different dollar amounts with many manufacturers. (I've never done Kraftmaid, we sell either commercial or very high end custom residential)
They might appreciate if you drew out a couple ideas and then gave them the pictures to price out rather than calling for a bunch of individual questions.
