Anyone know anything about Korean Culture? I ask b/c I have a professor who is from Korea (this is his 2nd semester teaching in our program)- I had to do a group project with 3 guys two of them did not do the entire part of their project so I had to do it. On the advice of my advisor who is also the department chair, she felt that I needed to talk to my teacher and tell him they were not pulling their weight- which I did.
We had to do our presentation last night and he made comments on what we had presented - he took notes and I noticed that on mine he had a minus sign and few comments, he told me one positve comment, which was really a side point that I made. The other guys had many comments and plus signs all over.He went on and on about the other guys telling them how excellent their points were. I had 18 power point slides and the guy that got the most comments only had 6 and put very little work in (actually I also offered him sugguestions on his part to help him out).

I am one of 3 women in the class, the other 2 do not put much effort into anything and I am frustrated and did not know if Koreans considered women as lower than men? I just was a little shocked and was mortified because it was obvious that he did not make any comments on mine. So the guys went on and on about how it is Quality over quantity - I have gotten the highest grades in all of my classes in this program, and do know the difference in my good work and when I have not turned in good work.
Any ideas?

My family has had Korean Exchnage students for the past 3 years. They do view women in a different light. I know when I would tell them to do something a lot of times it would get ignored until my DH would step in and tell them to do it. He finally told them that if I said to do something that it was the same as him telling them.

My 16DS was in Korea last summer and he stayed with one of our exchange studetns families. He says there is a real difference over there about how women are treated. Not quite second class citizens but they are regarded lower than women.

My DH returned from a one year tour in Korea with the Army. Women are treated differently he told me stories of some of the guys that married Korean women because they worship their men.

That was what I was afraid of- My fiance kept saying that maybe he has a hard time complementing women. He seems to be a very sweet man - it just really bothered me that he had very little to say to me after I worked my butt off doing way more than my share-
