Hello,

I posted a picture of my daughter last night but didn't tell her story.

My late wife and I started the process in January 2002. We went through Catholic Charities out of Baltimore. In Septmeber 2002 we got our assignment. Because we already had a son we got to chose a girl. One nice thing about Korean adoption is that you don't have to travel to Korea. On January 17, 2003 Emily came home to us. On Septmeber 26, 2003 the judge signed all the papers making her a US Citzen and he said "We don't undo adoptions in the state of Maryland". So she is forever mine. I lost my wife a little over a year from that day to colon cancer at the age of 37. I will admit that we came very close to not finalizing the adoption but I don't know what I would do without her in my life now.

She is making her first trip to Disney World in 29 days. I can't wait to see her face when she meets Ariel (her favorite) and all the other pricnesses for the first time.

Hello,

Holt International is the organization in Korea that places the babies with waiting families. We went through Chatolic Charities out of Baltimore. They sent the paper work to Holt in Korea. The process took about 1 year from the start of the paperwork to our Gotcha Day.

We used Holt for all three of our children's adoptions. Since you are in NJ they would be a great choice.

The only thing that would stop us from using Holt & going to Korea is they don't allow you to adopt 2 children at once.....no matter what happens we are very exciting and just keep praying to have a child sent our way.

My neighbor just adopted a 14m old little boy from Korea and he's adorable? My husband's cousin has two adorable daughters from Korea as well, now 15 and 11.

My children were adopted in Russia, so I don't have personal experience with Korea, but I wanted to wish you the best of luck. And it's wonderful to see so many IA families on here.

Can I share our adoption story even though our daughter is from China? Disney actually had a big influence on our adoption....

We have three birth children and were considering adopting a fourth when we took a trip to WDW. We were at that outdoor eating area in Tomorrowland (is it Cosmic Ray's?) when we saw a family with three blond kids like ours and a little Asian girl. My DW discreetly approached the father when he went to throw their garbage away and he was happy to tell us about their experiences adopting their daughter from China.

It may sound crazy, but seeing this family that looked so much like ours with a little Chinese daughter was the tipping point for us. She just looked so happy, sitting there in the middle of the Magic Kingdom! So we made it through the piles of paperwork and the waiting (whew) and brought our daughter home from China in 2005 when she was 13 months old. She had open-heart surgery last fall to fix a heart defect (she was a Waiting Intl. Child) and is doing beautifully. There is no question that we love her as much as the birth kids.

Sorry this is so long, but one of the best moments was when we got to bring her and the kids and my DW's parents to WDW last year. It was just incredible holding her and watching Cinderellabrations and knowing how different her life is now (not a dry eye in the house). We truly feel blessed. My daughter is from China, but HOLT was the one who set up the foster care program she was in. She was very well cared for and loved by her foster mother. I am told they interviewed 300 families and only chose the best 30 to care for these children. My daughter was a "waiting child" she came home at 4 and just turned 6. She is an AMAZING little girl (not just a proud mommy talking, strangers have come up and told me how wonderful she is). I am so blessed to have her.

I think it is wonderful you are considering adoption to grow your family. You might want to sign up for some Yahoo groups for Korean adoption. I belong to several different adoption groups and they have been a WONDERFUL resource. Good luck to you!

I have three adopted children (5 total). Two were adopted from China and one from Russia. We had fantastic adoption experiences with all of them. If you are drawn to Korea because of the escort services I would encourage you to go regardless of where your child resides. The adoption trip is an incredible journey, both for you and for the child you are adopting. These memories I will always cherish.
