Does anyone have any experience with this? My brother and sister-in-law are travelling from Ft. Lauderdale on a southern Caribbean cruise. She wants to add on to her Koodo plan because I'm looking after their 2-year-old daughter and they want to stay in touch. She's unsure if the phone will work, for one, and whether she should add the US plan or the International Plan (which doesn't cover anything in the US - go figure!).

Thanks so much!

Is the phone unlocked? You might also want to investigate Roam Mobility. I use it when travelling in the US and it's much cheaper on data.

Only disadvantage I can think of you will be calling a US number to reach her. However email and messaging will be the same. Don't think Roam Mobility will work on the cruise ship... but you have the wifi.

Roam Mobility is available at many Canadian retailers.

A phone plan will be of no use aboard the ship. Most ships will have ridiculously expensive and slllooooowwwww WiFi. But we were always able to find bars or cafes with free WiFi ashore. We used that for emails and messaging.

Yes. Much better to rely on Wifi while ashore. Very easy to find, as ship's staff will make a beeline for the closest facilities! I have read that passengers with US long distance cell plans can use their cell phones if they are docked at a US port, but not elsewhere. I suggest you purchase an online package from the ship so that you can email in case of emergency.

We have used while on-board (DCL ships) the available wifi to make VOIP calls little problem.
