Is Kona a counter service or a table service restaurant?

I hear that it's really good. What do you all reccommend?

Thanks!

Kona is a TS restaurant. If you sit by the window (and the window is clean!), you have IMO one of the prettiest settings in any WDW hotel to eat.

The food is good - a wee bit on the frou-frou side, but still good enough for regular folks. :)

If I weren't staying at the Poly, I wouldn't make a special trip to eat there. It isn't that exciting. But if you happen to be staying there, it is worth a trip. :) Oh, and if you want to get the hell out of the MK for a while and relax, it is a good time to try, too.

Have a great trip!

We have eaten breakfast there a few times and LOVE IT! The pressed pot coffee is amazing. Tonga Toast is DH fav and I love the eggs benedict.

Hoping to try it out for dinner the next trip.

We really enjoy all 3 meals there.

For breakfast the Tonga Toast is very unique, while the pancakes are delicious. This seemed to be a very good quality breakfast.

Lunch and dinner, we always have to get sticky wings, and we enjoy the Pan Asian Pasta (I belive thats the name). The beef terryaki is excellent, and I always make sure to get it with sticky rice. they make a very good Ceasar Salad too.

WE LOVED KONA!!!!!! We made ADR there in Jan.-just because we couldn't get the restaurant we wanted-we almost cancelled them and boy I am glad we didn't!!!!! It was the best meal of last trip!!! We can't wait to go back!!!
YUMMY!!!

After reading the reviews, the menu & looking at pics of the food, I am so happy I booked Kona for dinner for next week! :thumbsup2

I just booked Kona without even knowing what it was, but after reading about it here, I am very happy that I did! :)

It is one of our favorites TS in WDW. We like for dinner: potstickers, kona chowder or the sticky wings. Dinner I like the mahi mahi or the terriyaki steak or noodle bowl. Dessert- Macademia Torte thing.

I love Kona. Normally I can get in there at the last minute while it is difficult otherwise to get seated anywhere.

I treat the Sticky Wings appetizer as a full meal. It is about a dozen wing pieces plus salad.

The kitchen is partially a display kitchen; the display part is the dessert preparations.

When is your trip? I see you have ADR's at two of the same restaurants as us. We'll be at Chefs de France for dinner this Friday, and we have a reservation at Kona for Saturday at 6:25.:cool1: Our other ADR is for Hollywood Brown Derby/Fantasmic package on Thursday.

We'll be at Chef's de France this Friday for dinner, too! We have a 5 pm ADR-how about you? Our ADR at Kona is for next Monday, the 25th. :thumbsup2

Kona for breakfast is the best! The Tonga Toast and press pot are amazing, and it puts you just a short monorail ride away from MK for your first park of the day. If you are not staying at the Poly, park at the TTC and walk over.

Kona is one of our favorites. We like breakfast and dinner.

Tonga toast! Yum, but I am ok with getting this every other trip, very rich!

For dinner, its the mahi mahi all the way!

I have never tried Mahi Mahi. Can you tell me what it is like? What other fish would you compare it to? TIA!:upsidedow

Kona is the best mid-priced restaurant at WDW!
It doesn't matter what you order -- everything is quality.
Three years ago I just wasn't hungry when we went there, so I ordered the Vegetable Rice Bowl for dinner, expecting a very plain dish. It was scrumptious, and I ate every bite! I never dreamed a rice bowl could be that good.

I won't do it justice, but will say that I've ordered it two of the last 3 visits there and really enjoy it. Mahi mahi itself is a very nice, mild, firm white fish, and has no fishy taste at all. I can't remember if it was dipped in some type of breading and sauteed or had no breading. It sits on some type of veggie and ?? perhaps rice or crunchy onion rings somewhere in the dish, and there's a sauce involved, too. OK, I know this isn't helpful --- there's a lot going on in this dish, as Rachel Ray would say. The waitstaff have always recommended it as a very popular dish, and I agree. It's filling, and I rarely have room for desert.

DH has ordered the chicken the last 3 visits -- it's a boneless chicken breast, dipped in coconut and almonds, sauteed, and served over a very nice bed of mixed salad greens....... so, basically a chicken salad, except the chicken is extra tasty. He LOVES it, and I agree that it's very good, but there's so many good choices at Kona. The steak has also been excellent.

We've been eating at Kona for years and usually go there at least once each visit.

OK, I'm embarassed at such a disjointed recommendation for the mahi mahi, so I found this description of it:

Macadamia Mahi Mahi - served with mushroom rice, sauteed bok choy, lime-butter sauce and crispy fried onions $19.99

Yummy!
