Hi, we will be staying at the Polynesian this June. We have thought that we may want to eat at at our hotel one of the days. I was wondering how likely a walk in at the Kona is. I have made our TS ADRs but was wondering what the Kona might be like on a last min walk up.

My family has done Kona without ADRs and if you go at the right time..like maybe around lunch or so..it should'nt be too big of a wait.

Breakfast maybe,,,,dinner, no chance unless you want to eat at 9PM.
You can go to guest services at any hotel and ask them to check the computer for same day availability.....that might work....
We went in after 9PM one cold and rainy night and we just wanted hot soup....we only waited 5 min but that was at 9PM.

The two times we've eaten dinner at Kona, once in September '08 and again in March '09), they were turning away people who didn't have ADRs. It wouldn't hurt to try though.

Thanks. My dh is a last minute type of guy and all the planning and making ADRs that I am doing is killing him. I we may want to eat breakfast at Kona at the last minute so he can feel more in controle.

Has anyone ever tried to get there kids in Peter Pan club the same day? If so, did you have any luck?

Thanks again for everyones responces.

Here's my philosophy for ADRs: they're sort of a "necessary evil." It's a shame, but that's the reality. You've got thousands of people who need to eat their meals somewhere, and for those who are lucky enough to know about making ADRs ahead of time -- they're way ahead of the game. It's the people that don't know about making ADRs that get stuck eating CS their whole trip!

I'd rather make ADRs ahead of time (and cancel them if I don't need them or change my mind) than not to have them at all. You can't make an ADR appear magically, out of thin air, even at WDW!

I've eaten at Kona many times for dinner, and they've always turned away people with ADRs. Not as familiar with breakfast at Kona -- you could always take a chance, but June is a pretty busy time. I'd play it safe and make an ADR.

July 2006, we were able to walk up for breakfast.

July 2007, we were able to walk up for lunch--no wait at all, at about 1:00.

August 2008, we were able to walk up for dinner at about 7:30 even after being told on by Disney Dining when we tried to call about an hour before that the only time possible was 9:30 p.m.

I would not recommend relying on the ability to walk up there, but I think you have a good chance if you arrive when they open (that's how we got the breakfast), or outside of the typical rush hours for various meals.

My only experience is for dinner at Kona. The evening we ate there they were turning everyone away who did not have ADR's
You can certainly try, just don't have your heart set on it. Would it make your DH even more upset to try for a last minute meal and not get it? If that is the case, I wouldn't try. JMHO

Aug 2008 we walked up at 5:30 and sat in 20 minutes. It was two adults and a 1.5 year old.

Last August during the 1st day of free dining while my family and I were visiting the Polynesian just for fun we wanted to see if you could still walk into Kona Cafe without an ADR. Well it was around 7:00 PM and they told us we could eat there without an ADR, however it would be a 90 minute wait.

If you are there after 5 you can grab a seat at the Kona Island Sushi Bar. They can serve any item from Kona's dinner menu there and they don't accept ADRs. :thumbsup2

Don't forget that you don't have to sit at the Sushi bar to eat off the full Kona Cafe menu, because you can also sit at the tables against the window which would face the Polynesian Monorail station.

When we went last May we had made ADRs for breakfast but there were honestly THREE tables full at most the whole time we were there. Where was everyone? Who knows...but a walk up sure is possible!

Not surprising since it was the first day of Free Dining.
