Kona or The Wave?

A few years ago, Kona Cafe was our favorite restaurant on Disney Property (2002-2006). Then, we had lunch there in 2008, and all three of our meals were terrible. So much so, that we cancelled our reservations for dinner during that same trip and did not return in 2009 or 2010.

We have only eaten at The Wave for breakfast (2009), and we thought it was a good meal with good service. It wasn't outstanding like our first few visits at Kona, but it was good. Also, I like the ambience at the Kona Cafe a little better, but The Wave was nice.

So now, we would like to try one of the two of these restaurants for dinner in August. Which one should we choose? The menu at both looks fantastic. Is one consistently sending out better food than the other? Have you ordered anything at either place that knocked your socks off?

Thanks!

I personally have seen Kona Cafe for dinner go downhill. May 2007 - great! April 2009 - So/so. Sept 2010 - EEgods why did I book it??? Horrible.

So for us, we won't be going back to Kona cafe for dinner until they make some changes and we definitely wouldn't go out of our way to go there if we weren't staying on a monorail resort.

We did go to the Wave for dinner in 2009 and really enjoyed our meal there. Between the two, I would choose the Wave.

We've done both for dinner. We really, really like Kona's food, however, the last couple of times we have been, the service was really super slow!!! Last October we tried The Wave and fell in love with it. The service was outstanding and so was the food. It was also less noisey than Kona and seemed to be less crowded...maybe because it was more open and bigger than Kona.

Haven't tried the Wave but we eat at Kona's everytime we are in the world. We have always had good meals we no issues.....we are planning a late August stay maybe we will see you there....

I'll bite! What are your other two favorites?

Other than that one bad meal (which was at lunch time), we have had fabulous meals at Kona. Some of our best Disney meals ever have been at Kona. I rank it right up there with our positive experiences at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe.

It looks like we are going with Kona. My sister left a message on my answering machine, and she likes the look of the menu at Kona. I really want to give it a try again, too. I avoided it during my last two trips, and now, I am ready to try again. And everyone who reviews it seems to like the Teryaki Steak. So that's what I plan to order.

Now, I need to decide between the potstickers and crabcakes. The potstickers used to be my favorite--loved the sauce that they put on them. I wonder if it is still as good.

The Wave is one of my favorite dinner places in WDW. If it were my choice I'd go with The Wave.:thumbsup2

Wow! What a wonderful website and a wonderful review! I may just be swayed over to The Wave, now. Maybe I can find a way to visit both! Thank you so much! I am going to bookmark your website :thumbsup2
