Kona or Ohanna??????

We will be 4 adults for dinner, looking for good atmosphere, and good food to celebrate a birthday! We wanted to try one of these two, so which would you choose and why?

Well, we've never been to 'Ohana but I wanted to comment on Kona Cafe. On our past Nov trip, we had ADR for 'Ohana, but this was our first trip with DDs, and we ended up going to MK for rides instead. This was early in our trip and we tried to get in but never was able to. We did at the last minute get into Kona Cafe however. When we got there, DD was a little grumpy, we looked at the menu, it seemed to be a little 'fancy' for me (I'm kindof picky) but we tried it. It was by far our best meal of the entire trip and we're definitely going back next year. We got the char crusted filet with asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was SO good. If we had time, we would have gotten desserts too, because they looked wonderful. I know 'Ohana is supposed to be a fun atmosphere, but don't discount Kona Cafe. The service and food were excellent.

Ohana is my all time favorite. They have great frozen drinks and the view is nice. I thought that the food was great and I love family style. The atmosphere is great and I think it is a perfect place for a bunch of friends to get together. If you decide to go ask for a seat near the window.

I have never been to Ohana for any meal other than their character breakfast. Last weekend I went to Kona Cafe and all I have to say is I wish I could eat there right now! I had the terryaki beef with mashed potatoes and brocolli and was in heaven! Even if you choose Ohana, Kona Cafe is a definate must for your trip!

We (me, DH, DD, and DD's best friend) just went to Ohana's for the first time in November...and I must say it was fantastic!!!! If you like chicken wings, peel and eat shrimp, lots and lots of steak, port, sausage, turkey, then you would love Ohana's. The salad is even outstanding. The wonton chips and dip are really good too. And to top it all off the bread pudding with bananas foster and ice cream is to die for. We loved it and can't wait to go back again this year. Even though they did kids things, it didn't interupt the meal at all. I've never been to Kona's but have heard great things about there too. Good luck on your decision!!!!

Both places are great..we havent been to ohana since the menu has changed but the atmosphere at both places are great..i think you will find more kids at ohana than you will at kona...but they are both an experience in themselves

I am going to agree with most everyone here, you must try both if possible. We did recently try the new O'hana menu, and it was still good. They give you shish-ka-bob type meat. I dipped my steak in the peanut sauce, it is absolutely wonderful!!!! The bread pudding at the end of the meal was really good too. Now on another note, Kona is fabulous as well. We eat here for breakfast & dinner every trip. I had the beef tips "wonderful", and the desserts are yummy too. so I guess this did not help you choose to much, but it is what I think of both. The atmosphere at Kona is just really quite, and laid back. The atmosphere at O'hana is upbeat & loud. If you want drinks, and more of a party atmosphere I think I would try O'hana. You can not go wrong with either.

Okay, now you guys have thouroughly confused me!! I guess I'll have to talk the girls into doing both! Being the birthday girl, I think I can pull it off! I appreciate your input! If only I could make time fly! I never thought I'd look so forward to turning 40!

Both are great...but very different types of restaurants. Ohana is "all you can eat" and they keep bringing it to you at your table on skewers....

Kona is choose from a menu.....

Personally I prefer Ohana.....the entertainment there is tons of fun too.. They often do Hula hoop contests during dinner, and have kids sweep coconuts around the room in a race....a real party atmosphere.

I would choose Ohana. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun. They had lots of games and activities for the kids to do during the entire meal. There are also great views of the the fireworks and water pagent as well. This place was the sweetpea's favorite for our entire trip.

My girlfriends and I ate at Kona the first night of my 50th b'day celebration in November at WDW. We absolutely LOVED it. Holly was our server and she was beyond awesome! Great food, great wine, and a relatively low-key way to kick off our trip. Not crowded or noisy. Next night was our "BIG" night (dressing up, splurging on food and wine, etc) at CG which was wonderful, too. Have booked ADRs at Kona for my next trip in March with my family! (Only negative to note was that, especially towards the end of our meal, the restaurant was FREEZING!!! So take a sweater!)

We have never had a bad meal at either. If we had to choose just one for dinner it would be 'Ohana. If we were choosing for breakfast Kona Cafe would win every time. You can also do lunch at Kona Cafe, although it's a much lighter menu than dinner.

I have to agree with everyone who said to try and go to both! We've had excellent meals at both restaurants. However, if I *had* to choose only 1, it'd be the Kona Cafe.

I have been to both and enjoy both of them, I guess the deciding factors are what are you looking for.

Kona is more like a normal restaurant where they take your order and bring out each course for each individual, while O'hana brings out the first course and the sides family style. The protein's at O'hana are served from skewers that the servers bring aroung.

At O'hana all of the entrees are grilled items and there is no seafood. At Kona you have more choice with seafood items and pasta type dishes along with beef, pork and poultry.

There is a more "show" atmosphere at O'hana. They have the kids do different things like races etc that you can watch (or not)
