Hey guys!

It's almost our time to visit The World! We leave in just a few short days! :cool1:

Sunday is our MK day and we'd like to take the monorail over to the POLY for dinner. I currently have reservations at Ohana AND Kona.

I just read the big Ohana thread and am a bit discouraged. I've had our Ohana reservations for over 3 months and was looking forward to it. I am taking my parents and this is their first time at WDW in over 30 years. They have high expectations, love great wines and great food and I really want to impress.

I *think* that everyone who posts here will say Kona. My only hesitation is that on our last trip to the world, we had a HORRID experience at Kona. Waited forever for our seat then were sat in the front corner and basically ignored by our waiter. Our waiter changed 3 timed and we saw people come and leave in the time it took us to get our meal. :scared1: I REALLY can't have another experience like that. Not there...not with my parents, dh and my kids.

Thoughts?

:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 Thanks! :)

We have eaten at both and a million times over I would choose Kona. We found the food at Kona to be MUCH better than Ohana. The food at Ohana was definately not "great food"...it was terrible! As far a service..unfortunately bad service can happen anywhere. We had terrible service at Ohana, but it was great at Kona this past August.

First of all, people on here like to complain about everything. Ohana is an excellent choice, it is our favourite place to go along with many other peoples. We have been to free dining twice and ate here both times and it was great both times. The only restaurant we liked better was Le Cellier, but this was a very close second. We also at at Kona on our last trip after hearing good things on here about it. Kona was also very good, however it is more of a Cafe, the seating is in direct view of the hotel and it is small. Personally I loved both, both were good but were different. If I had to choose just one I would choose Ohana. Now even though we loved both of these restaurants don't get the impression we just love all of them...we have been to some real duds in our visits but these two are both good choices.

I would not let people on this board deter you from Ohana, we will continue to go. Our first trip was before I heard the bad reviews, the second trip was after and it was just as good as I remembered and I was glad I booked it again. We are returning for free dining next September also and both of these will be repeats for us next trip also

I will preface this by saying that we are not the complaining type. Just sharing our true feelings here. We disliked Ohana very much. We didn't care for the hot foods, our server was scarce and didn't seem to even notice that he was removing completely full plates of foods from our table because we weren't eating. When he asked as he was presenting the check if we enjoyed the meal, my husband was honest in saying that we hadn't...and he looked dh in the eye and said "Try Kona next time!" with zero concern. :confused3

Now, we were trying Ohana for the first time. Having been fans of Kona for years. We will return to Kona on every visit. Ohana...no thank you.

That all said, many people here on the DIS :lovestruc Ohana so maybe we are just weird! :rotfl:

Been to both...All I can say is that if you are wanting to do Ohana then do it! Don't worry about what other peoples opinions are. We had a good time at Ohana and Kona as well. Different places so each were a different experience but I don't think one really stood out over the other. I liked them both and though I preferred the more personal service @ Kona we are going back to Ohana this time.

Just wanted to add..just because some of use share "less than great" experiences, it doesn't mean that we love to complain.:rolleyes1 We share our honest opinions to help others make educated decisions. That being said, for ANY dining experience at Disney, you will find 100 people who love it and 100 people who don't. At the end of the day you really need to experience it for yourself. :)

I just got an ADR for dinner at 'Ohana (we are doing breakfast there as well) - but I'm feeling the same way as you --I keep seeing negative reviews on here and now I'm second guessing myself about doing dinner there. But, I did go on Trip Advisor and there were far more positive reviews than negative. Not to mention many dining reviews on other sites that were raving about dinner at 'Ohana. So I'm going to hang onto the ADR for now--I got the last one available for the entire week we are there in May (that also says something!) :) Good luck!

Been to both, like both places.
Prefer Ohana's over Kona, food is good at both. The character breakfast at Ohana's is good, like the food and you get to see Mickey. I really like the Tonga toast at Kona's too.. Dinner at Ohana's I ask for the steak cooked medium, cause sometimes it too well done for me. Make sure you save room for the dessert at Ohana's. I think you can have a bad experience at any place, I have been to both these places and had a great time at both.

Ohana is awesome!! It is our favorite. The simple test of popularity is how hard it is to get a reservation. Ohana usually has to be booked way in advance to get a seat.
