Kona for dinner?

I have read somewhere on Disney boards, that if your child will not eat anything from the adult menu, but would eat from the kids, then, explain it, and bc it's Disney and they want kids happy, they will do it. I have not tried it myself, but u could try.

Kona was an AMAZING dinner experience for me. The bread itslef is enough to bring me back. I had the fondue for desert too. That was sinful ;) I highly recommend this restaraunt.

My wife and I weren't thrilled with Kona dinner. It was probably the worst meal that we had all week. She had the scallops and I had the teryiaki NY Strip. Dessert was pretty good though - I really enjoyed the banana chocolate creme brulee, and she liked the Kona Cone.

Overall though, we wouldn't return here.

It was our fave meal (food wise) in 2009. That said I do agree with PP who said the atmosphere is quite lacking. In fact the person nailed it by saying it felt like a mall food court.

Kona is one of our favorites every trip. Excellent food and always great service. Desserts are some of the best at WDW.

I hear Kona mentioned on here all the time for breakfast, but what about dinner? Any reviews? Ohana is all booked up for our entire trip and my sister really wanted to eat somewhere at the Polynesian.

DH and I had dinner at Kona in October, and while I was really looking forward to it (the torte especially), we weren't blown away.

Our bread was cold, which I found unimpressive; the flavor of the bread and butter were there, but I'm just not a fan of cold bread.

Our entrees were spot-on: the New York strip for me, and the Pan-Asian noodles with chicken for DH. Those were delicious, and a TON of food.

Then came what I had been waiting for -- the chocolate torte. The presentation was lovely, but it was (once again) cold, and super dry. We didn't even finish it, which is unheard of for me and dessert. ;) Luckily we were there during Food & Wine and stumbled upon the lava cake at the Ireland booth, which more than made up for it.

We might go back someday (the sushi looked awesome, but I think you can just get rolls at the bar outside the restaurant), but there are other places we want to try first.

We went in October and it was great. The bread is wonderful. We asked for our leftover bread to take home, but our server gave us a whole new loaf and butter. It mad great toast the next morning for breakfast!
It is one of our favorite places to eat.

I respectfully disagree. The description of a mall food court to me invokes an image of people passing by walking in close proximity of tables with little separation from the main traffic flow. Kona cafe brings in the atmosphere of the atrium while maintaing a bit of separation.

The room itself is somewhat lightly themed, but that's OK with me. Sometimes a little restraint is welcome; not every restaurant has to be a 50s Prime Time.

I do think it's an improvement over the Coral Isle Cafe which it replaced.

No restaurant design can please everybody though, and that's OK also.

A tropical Denny's? That would be the long-closed Tangaroa Terrace.

While my DD17 (at that time) had very high hopes for Kona ( we were looking forward to it), our meal in May 2012 was anything but enjoyable. I cannot even remember what I ordered. We were there for dinner and my daughter received her chicken RAW ( I mean dangerously unhealthy, pink in the middle). The manager seemed appaulled and very apologetic but, it kind of killed the meal for us. I believe that they didnt charge us and gave us extra desserts. I think this was fluke thing but, it is something to be careful of.
