So, what can anyone tell me about dinners at these places? I've had breakfast at Kona's because we just missed the end of the breakfast ressie we had(long story). It was good, but, then we did have a character breakfast at O'hanas and it was great, we loved it! We will probably do that again. Then I saw some people talking about Kona and Ohana's.

Can anyone tell us about these places(I did see pic of ohanas, yummy)? How is the food and can you compare the two places? Which might be better? I got the idea ohana's might be a buffet for dinner or is that wrong? If so, is it a character dinner? In the thread with pics they said something about entertainment, is that ohanas? I was confused so decided to ask questions. People here always know what's going on! :thumbsup2

We usually always do the same places so checking out some different options this time since we have such a great place to learn about the different restaurants. :)

You can check www.allearsnet.com for menus for both. We love Kona Cafe but are going to try Ohana for dinner this year. Ohana is family style with no characters. The restaurants are right next to each other so we always see the line for Ohana when we are at Kona so they must be doing something right!

We have eaten at both, and we enjoyed both a lot. They are VERY different experiences. 'OHana is a fixed menu - not a buffet nor ordering off of a menu. I thought the food was great. They serve salad, bread, appetizers, potatoes and veggies family style to your table, then they circulate with 4 types of skewers of meat/shrimp for you to choose. It is all you care to eat.
The view is across the lagoon to the MK and is beautiful.
They have entertainment, primarily for the younger ones. There is a coconut race, and hula hoops and singing - lots of fun for little ones.
Kona is a bit quieter. We thought the food was outstanding - better than 'OHana even though we liked 'OHana. There is no view whatsoever, but it was a pleasant dinner.
Check out the menus here on the DIS and on allearsnet.com to see which appeals most to you.
Have a Fun Trip.

Our family prefers Kona. The last two times eating O'Hana, it was nothing special. The service was also poor. We have never been disappointed with Kona. Looks of the place are deceiving, nice cafe' look, but the menu is more "gourmet" like. Last visit the chef was trying new dishes and let us sample.

We love dinner at Kona. It's excellent cuisine at a moderate (for WDW price).

We finally tried dinner at 'Ohana last Fall. Our service was excellent but the food is not to our taste. But it is a lot of food for the price and I suspect that is a draw. And of course some people love the coconut races for kids, etc.. I didn't even see those BTW.:confused3

I really like both. Kona has better food, (though Ohana's food is very good,) but Ohana is more fun.

We've eaten at both and yes, they are very different dining experiences. The food was good at O'Hanas, but we overate and were miserable all night! :lmao: They pipe in the music for Wishes at MK, if you're there at that time, and you can see the fireworks across the lagoon. There's also games for the kiddos, so that keeps them entertained.

We ate at Kona as a last minute thing last June, and we were very pleasantly surprised. Nice atmoshere for dinner, food was excellent. We're going back in September, if that tells you anything!

Based on our experience, we feel that 'Ohana = Quantity and Kona = Quality.

I think this is a pretty accurate assessment although the quality at 'Ohana is not bad, just not on a level with Kona Cafe. We did both on our last trip and enjoyed them both and are doing both again in August.

If I had to chose between the two I would say Kona Cafe if it wasn't for that Banana Bread Pudding at 'Ohana. I am glad we don't have to make a choice.

We loved them both! Sorry I am no help I couldn't choose between the two that is why we are doing both in Sept!
