Any recent experiences and feedback?

Is it generally a lot less busy and are the wait-time generally not as long than Ohana for dinner?

Worth making the trip from Contemporary after a long day at park? I only have one night left with no ADR accounted for, wondering if I want to trek over to Poly even though just two stops. :)

Thanks!!

We have been to Kona on our last 2 trips. We have never had any wait at all, it's always been mostly empty. We like ok. Food is good, not spectacular.

thanks for the info!

Does that mean they serve apps, entrees, etc relatively quickly? I'm trying to decide whether to book 5:45p or 6:15p dinner. If they don't have much wait and are not slow with getting food on table, then I might opt for the later ADR so I don't need to rush over to Poly.

Hopefully it will work out. Their menu seems interesting.

We were just at WDW for the weekend and we ate for the first time at Kona Cafe. The meal was great and our server "Maria" very nice and helpful.

It was me, my SO, DD (12) and DNiece (20): We had the Barbeque Spare Ribs and Pot Stickers for an appetizer. I was a bit dissapointed there were only 4 pot stickers but there were plenty of ribs. DD consumed those. The waitress brought us warm clothes to wipe our hands with after the ribs. That was a nice touch.

For the main course, the "kids" had sushi for their meal and the adults shared the Pan Asian Noodles with Yakisoba noodles, wok-seared vegetables and your choice of Chicken or Tofu in ginger-garlic sauce $17.99. We had the Tofu. It reminded me a bit of the Wagamma chain of restaurants. Nice! We also shared the Coconut Chicken, sauteed chicken breast served with a salad of Asian greens fresh fruit and almonds $16.99. It came a fresh light salad, not overdressed. Both were light and fresh, although the Coconut Chicken was a bit sweet.

My SO enjoyed a glass of Conundrum, and for dessert the "kids" shared the signature Kilauea Torte, kind of a molten lava chocolate cake. They devoured it. The decaf coffee was excellent (a real find at Disney World - good coffee!!) and because it was my birthday, the waitress brought me a cupcake. Fun!

Service was pretty quick. The restaurant itself open to the lobby and bit loud. I would go back.

Oh that sounds so yummy. I can't wait to try.

We only go there for breakfast and it is outstanding. The French Press Kona coffee and Tonga Toast is the best way to start a day.

Kona's is fabulous for dinner -- and they have absolutely great desserts. It is one of the "must do's" on our list for each trip. Just let your server know that you want quick service and I am sure that they will be happy to oblige.

We had breakfast there a few months ago and it was fantastic. Food was great! Served hot, everything was cooked fresh and tasted yummy.

We've had dinner there too and it was equally good. Didn't feel like going through the big deal of Ohana and just wanted to sit and eat something good. Their wings are outstanding. Our favorite appetizer!

Kona is one of our favorites - we make a point to go there most every trip. We have definitely seen it busy; the crowds probably follow the seasons like everything else.

The coffee.....will be there later this month & can't wait for that coffee!

We haven't dined at Kona that recently, our last time was August 2010, but we really enjoyed it then!

I just wanted to chime in and say the monorail from the CR to the Poly is really a treat, not a schlep at all! We always dine at the CR when staying at the Poly, and the monorail ride is part of the fun! Also, I don't know what night of the week you are planning to (maybe) visit Kona, but if it is Tuesday through Saturday, there is a torch-lighting ceremony at the main entrance of the GCH that is really fun to watch and lasts about 5 minutes. I think it's around 5:45? Please check the time and make time to see it. So if it's 5:45, make your ADR for 6:05 or so, which would give you time to watch the show and mosey up to the podium to check in a few minutes early. It's definitely worth watching it if you happen to be at the resort at dinnertime.

Kona is one of our "must do's" everytime we visit. Love that its not too crowded when we go. Food as always been wonderful. Dont forget the sticky-wings :)
