Kona Cafe?

I LOVE this restaurant! :thumbsup2

For breakfast I like the pineapple-macadamia-nut-butter pancakes, which are NOT too sweet at all. I don't add syrup to them; the flavor of the pineapple and the macadamia nuts makes it perfect:

For dinner I love the sticky wings appetizer and the beef teriyaki with pineapple salsa (the shrimp in the picture with the steak is an add-on item):

I'm wondering if anyone has ever ordered a cheeseburger or something from their lunch menu during dinner?

For whatever reason, I think their lunch menu looks much better than their dinner but we can only get ADR's for dinner. :confused3

WE have eaten B, L & D there and loved every meal. We also once took a break from MK in the middle of the day to have coffee and dessert there.

I had the cheeseburger from room service and my husband ordered it for lunch.

Both were quite good and not at all fatty.

Kona Cafe is one of our favorites. It is a must do for breakfast and dinner for us each trip. We've tried a few different things and everything has always been delicious. I highly recommend it.

I am happy to read such good reviews. I stayed at the Poly last year but we never ate at Kona Cafe or O'hanas. This August we are staying at the Poly again and we have ADR's for both. I can't wait....

It is definately worth a trip to the poly. I went there for the first time in May and I know that I will be visiting in future trips to WDW

Thanks for the positive feed back. Just booked a dinner ressie for Sept. The menu looks awsome! Don't know why I didn't find this place before.

Can we view the electrical parade from the resort or beach while we're there, or is it only for resort guests? :)

Oh you definately can watch EWP and WISHES from the Poly beach. It's open to everyone and has never been crowded the times we were there! (You cannot hear much of the WISHES music though).

KONA is our fav place to eat. It was even BIL approved and he is so picky that I was scared! We have tried most of the appies including the Chicken Noodle Soup -- yes -- I wanted something "home-like and soothing" and it was homemade and wonderful! I have had the filet (perfect) and the mahi mahi (tasty). Coffee is wonderful, beer is cold or fruity drinks lovely! Desserts are to DIE for! Service has always been great. Noise level is very high - bad acoustics!

We loved breakfast too but I am into the sickening sweet Tonga Toast. DH's omelet was good too and we shared a healthy side of fruit. :thumbsup2

I am really getting excited about dining at Kona! We've spent too many years dining at "our favorite" places. It's fun to branch out and try something new!

Can someone tell me what time the EWP will go by the Poly in Sept? :)

Excuse me...I am a mild-mannered, middle-aged, reasonably nice type person...and a firm believer in "everyone is entitled to his/her opinion"...HOWEVER, someone has made me GET OUT THE CAPS by declaring that MY TONGA TOAST is REVOLTING? Sorry, so sorry, sorry, sorry I lost my fingers there for a moment. Yes, yes, you certainly are entitled to your opinion and if you think tonga toast is re...is revol....is not very good, well, then I certainly understand and I respe....respec....respecT that. You are, of course, right according to your own tastes, and I'll go away noowwwwwwwwwww....hrrrrphmmmmmf,mumble,mumble,revolting,wrong,just wrong,mumblemumble

I believe that it's ALWAYS 9pm :)

Pretty much. I think it is sometimes delayed, e.g. on MVMCP nights when Wishes is at 9:15, I think EWP takes place afterward, starting at the Polynesian. I have no idea what happens for MNSSHP.

Thanks, Erik! I figured there might be times when it's not 9pm, but it's always been 9pm when we've been there. :hourglass

We have eaten there several times and have scheduled it this August on the night we do the P&P party at MK--we could only get 2 tables, and when I asked her if we could put the kids at one table on the other side of the restaurant, she encouraged it!;) Last year the 4 "adults" (including my girls) all got different foods and they were all very good.

My wife always sits shaking her head at me when the Tonga Toast arrives...and for the record, I've always thought that only the very last bite of Tonga Toast is revolting, as in "What did I just do?!?!"...every bite until that last bite is pure extascy! ;)

I've also found that if you're a big fan of the crab cakes at Kona Cafe, the ones that Poly room service delivers are exactly the same...but bigger!!

It is sourdough bread cut thick and stuffed with bananas. This is dipped in egg and milk and fried, then cinnamon sugar is sprinkled on top. We have never been to Kona either but I made reservations there in December just so I could try this! Here's the recipe: http://www.********************/WDWRecipesDetail.asp?RecipeID=21

Sara

Since that site URL is apparently a NO NO here is the recipe:

Ingredients

* 2 or 4 slices sourdough bread cut 1 inch thick
* 1 banana
* 1/3 cup sugar
* 1 tsp cinnamon
* 1 egg
* 1/4 cup milk
* 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
* oil for frying
* whipped butter if desired
* Maple syrup if desired

Directions
Cut a 1 inch pocket in one side of the bread slice.

Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff 2 pieces in each pocket, again depending on size. Set aside.

Mix sugar and cinnamon together.

Mix egg, milk and vanilla until well blended.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350 F.

Dip stuffed bread into egg mixture, allowing it to soak in for a few minutes.

Fry in hot oil until lightly brown, turning to brown both sides. Drain on paper towels on cake rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
