Listening to an old podcast where Kevin reviewed the sushi bar at Kona. Just wondering if it is still any good or not. Also, can you still order off the main restaurant menu there and vice versa, can you order sushi while in the main restaurant?

I went there in December 2008, August 2009, December 2009 and yes you can order off the main menu for the Kona Cafe when eating at the Sushi Bar. As for ordering Sushi at the Kona Cafe I think you can also do that, but I am not 100% sure. Finally my family and I think their Sushi is very good and my personal favorite was the Volcano Roll.

Anyone know if they have a roll like that spicy one at Cali Grill?

Wasn't there some rumor that sometimes they were getting their sushi rolls from Publix ?

I HOPE that's all it was... a rumor....

Good friends of mine were just there recently also and RAVED about both the food and the service.

Oh God no. The sushi at Kona is 95% as good as the sushi at California Grill, and for half the cost. I consider sushi at Kona a must-do every visit.

Though I usually don't sit at the bar, I prefer to eat inside Kona Cafe itself, where the seating is more pleasant and you can eat the same sushi.

Oh no....

The Noodle Station in the MK was serving Publix sushi.

The Kona Sushi Bar is awesome.

Heaven's NO!!! You can actually watch the chefs make the rolls. Very fresh, very delicious.

We got sushi at there in March and it was beyond delicious. It is certainly not Publix sushi, but rather very fresh, tasty, extremely yummy sushi.
My favorite was the crab cake roll, but the Volcano roll was also very good. They also serve Kona Pale Ale at the bar, which I was so happy about.

I'm planning on filling up on Kona's tasty fishy goodness in a few weeks!

I don't think the Volcano Roll holds a candle to the Spicy Kazan at California Grill. It's good, but for some reason, I think California Grill's is better. I would get sushi again from Kona sushi bar, but it's not my favorite place.

As others have said, you can watch them making the sushi in front of you. ;)
