I haven't been to either. Which one would you go to? I have three children ages 10, 6 and 2. They eat everything.:confused3

Ohanna is a Buffet & Kona is a sit down. So it really depends what kind if food your looking to eat. Also was it breakfast or Dinner ?

Which meal are you considering having?
I've been to Kona and 'Ohana's for breakfast before and I prefer 'Ohana's. Kona was okay, but our server wasn't the best. She let us go thirsty a couple of times and the atmosphere isn't really phenomenal. There are some spots in the restaurant where you could probably look out and see the monorail deck area but that's about all for views. However, I will say that Kona's breakfast menu is pretty large and has a nice variety.
I love 'Ohana's because we've always had good service here and the characters are just a bonus. I think it's some of the best character interaction at WDW. The views are marvelous. 'Ohana's basically is all windows and there's nothing better than starting a day looking out at the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle. The food is really good and I love how they bring the fruit and bread out before the platter with all the hot breakfast food in it.

Sorry if this post was a waste because you wanted to do dinner.

For dinner, O'Hana is served family style and it is as much as you want to eat. Kona you order off of the menu. I would suggest looking at the menus on allearsnet.com and decide what you like the best.
O'Hana does have coconut races for the kids and you learn the hula, where Kona is just a restaurant.
Good luck-both are delicious!!!

ooops sorry forgot to post - we want to go for dinner. I did check out the menus and both look good. Is the food better at one or the other?

my opinion is neither..O'hanas food is not so desirable and Kona to me is a glorified diner for which you pay top dollar. Why not chef mickey or crystal palace.. Are you going for br, lunch or dinner?
Know there are many who will differ but just my opinion

kona is awesome. Not at all overpriced as mentioned above. The menu has items that are similar(some better) than the California Grille, and remarkably cheaper. Ohanas is all you can eat potatoes, pineapple grilled shrimp, steak, turkey...all on skures...kind of like a brazilian restaurant. the dessert is out of this world. I prefer kona, my wife prefers ohana...it depends on your actual mood. either way, can't beat the poly.

I prefer the food at Kona, but the kids may have more fun at 'Ohana with the coconut race and limbo dancing. :)

'Ohana would be much more fun for the kids. My DD5 has requested we go there again on our next trip, and so has my mom... so it's definitely on our to-dine list. :goodvibes

Mom and I ate at Kona last time too, while we left DD at Neverland Club. I thought it was good (I had the filet, it was good, not nearly as good as Jiko's though, and not as good as Le Cellier's either) and my mom had the prime rib. I recently asked mom if she wanted to go back next time and she said no. She thought it was okay but would rather try something new, so we're going to The Wave instead.

My suggestion would be to do both . But if that's not an option, Ohana would be more fun for the kids :goodvibes. Ohana is all you can eat served family style; while Kona is sit down order off the menu......which I must add, has awesome prime rib and filet :thumbsup2. But Ohana is good, too :). You can't go wrong with either place, just depends what kind of atmosphere you're looking for.

IMO, I would go to Kona. Its a must every time we visit. The filet mignon is like butter

I decided to go with O'hana. My thought is since we are have a afternoon tea at 2:20, I could make later reservations for O'hana for dinner and then watch the fireworks.

I just called and they are booked until 9:30 pm which is way to late for my 2 year old. We are 160 days out, should I keep trying? should I book Kona and keep trying for O'hana?

Book Kona, but KEEP TRYING for OHANA! At 160 days out, something should open up.

Great choice! Your 3 children will love Ohana. They have music and games and the atmosophere is just great! The food selection is wonderful. Your kids will definitely find something that they like there. If you do decide to try Kona some day they have great food as well. We have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we are always very pleased. We have never been upset leaving either of these places. Have fun! Enjoy the yummy food!

Ohana hands down! We did Ohana and Kona and didn't love Kona at all - it was okay... large portions were good but the service at Ohana was phenomenal where at Kona it was just okay

I would go with O'Hana as long as your family are carnivores. The food is Average to Good with the sausage meats the most dissapointing. The atmosphere is great, especially if you catch a MK fireworks show. They dim lights and pump the music in for that, but you will need a window seat or close to. The kids love the racing and the open grill (if you can see it). My son was nuts for shrimp at the time and he loved the peel and eat shrimp, I couldn't peel them fast enough. I loved the dessert, but was very stuffed.

Now I love the Kona; I even liked it under its old pedigree (the Coral Isle). It has great dessert options and a good breakfast in Tonga Toast. The food was decent size portioning. I do find the seating area cramped and had subpar service the last trip, although the food was great.

Really, both are great, but I just think O'Hana is more accomodating for kids.

Both can be difficult to get ADRs at so book early. I couldn't fit either in for my next trip.

I would keep trying for 'Ohana. We will be trying it for the first time this November, and I have heard (mostly) good things about it. :)

Ohana for your kids. Kona for the adults. Both are excellent but your kids would enjoy the atmosphere more over at Ohanas. If Ohanas is booked, other kid-favorite restaurants would be Whispering Canyon Cafe over at the Wilderness, Crystal Palace at MK, Chef Mickey at Contemporary, Sci-Fi Drive In and 50s Prime Time Cafe at MGM..... I also know that there is a dinosaur-themed restaurant opening soon at DD but don't know when??

T-Rex is what I really want to do, but it may not be open or I might not be able to get ressies for that, so we are trying to get O'hana as a backup. So far we are already doing Whispering Canyon, Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare, Garden Grill. I thought about Chef Mickey's but I think I will be sick of buffets. We have also done Chef Mickey's in the past, so I wanted something different.
