Kona Cafe for breakfast or dinner?

Seeing as you can't have Koko Puffs at breakfast, I'd have to say definitely go for dinner. We make a trip to the Poly just for that wonderful dessert.

Okay, are these the cream puffs with chocolate inside? I had a dessert at Kona in 1999...eegads it's been a long time ago...and DS snitched all the chocolate cream from the middle of the puffs and I forgot what they were called. Thanks!!

And double rats to ya'll...I originally planned to do an 11am lunch here the day we are doing MVMCP, then realized that time wouldn't work for lunch, so switched to a 10am breakfast...now I'm in an even bigger quandry...DH wants to eat at Kona for lunch or dinner to get those desserts...we've never eaten there for breakfast....but it's been 6 years since we ate there at all... :confused3

So, any thoughts?

Thanks so much!!

We've eaten breakfast there a few times. Tonga Toast rocks! Wash it down with the Kona coffee press pot.

I'll echo the others that were surprised by dinner. Last summer we had ADR's for California Grill, only to find the place closed because of a flood on one of the floors of CR. Kona was the only place with availability to suit our already rumbly tumblies. DW was disappointed, not usually liking Asian food.

The cafe was surprisingly sedate for where it is. I had the noodle bowl, which was great. Can't remember what DW had - likely a steak. We came away very content and will go back if we can peel ourselves away from CG.

I had the macadamia pineapple pancakes last October and have been craving them ever since. Wonderful! You get I think 3 huge pancakes that are cooked perfectly with a huge glob of macadamia nut butter that is filled with chunks of toasted nuts. I ordered mine with the pineapple on the side because I wasn't sure I'd like cooked pineapple on pancakes and although it was scrumptious I will always order the pineapple on the side because I like to control the sweetness myself and I don't like mushy pancakes! You also get your choice of meat, I had a huge piece of ham (that went great with the pineapple) but you could also get bacon or sausage! Yum!!

Thanks so much for describing them! I think this just might tip the scales in the direction of the Polynesian, for which resort we'll be staying at. Want to be close to the Kona Cafe! :earboy2:

Can you buy any of the Kona Cafe deserts at the Kona Cafe Coffee Bar? Just wondering in case we don't eat at the Kona Cafe this trip I would like to try at least one.

I don't know if you can get them at the coffee bar, but you can definately just go to Kona for dessert. We did that one night and it was great. We just waited for a table (no ADRs) but if they were full, I'm guessing you could order desserts to go and eat them in the lounge.

I tried Kona for breakfast last month to have some famous Tonga Toast. Since I really like French Toast, and Bananas it sounded heavenly to me.

It was AWFUL!!! It was waaaayy too sweet (COVERED in sugar) and the bananas inside were cold. I did not care for it at all. Now the old French Toast at the Maya Grill (with a caramelized banana topping) was to die for.

I ended up sending back the Tonga Toast and just getting some fruit and breakfast potatoes.
