Which one would you pick? I'd like to try Kona Cafe on our next trip. I have reservations for Boatwrights for dinner and breakfast. I'm thinking of giving up one of these for an ADR at Kona Cafe.

Which one would you pick?

Many people would pick Kona for breakfast to have Tonga Toast, their
special banana french toast. (Me, I liked it better years ago. It seems too
sweet now.)

Kona for dinner is a pleasant surprise. I ate dinner there maybe a year ago,
and I enjoyed it. Sure, my experience isn't recent, but I do think it's
overlooked due to the popularity of 'Ohana.

We have only had breakfast there and i wouldn't make a special trip there again for it. It was typical breakfast food - nothing special or necessarily unique, except for the tonga toast which was g-r-o-s-s. It's just a lobby restaurant that serves eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. Though the coffee is decent!

I haven't done dinner there but it gets rave reviews on here often and seems to have a more unique menu =)

agree about the breakfst..it was fair to good and expensive. it also was packed and the wait long in mid Jan so get adrs if you are going

While I have never been for dinner and this is totally biased....I say pick breakfast !! That Tonga Toast is to die for !!!

The macadamia pancakes sound good. Can anyone give a review of them?

We tried Kona for dinner in 2003 and fell in love with the place. The food is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Much better than we had anticipated. We ate there again in June and it's still great! Absolutely a MUST do on every trip now.

I have had lunch and dinner here many times. It is one of my families favorites! We are scheduled to visit 3 times on our next trip. The desserts are fantastic!

Personally I wouldn't go anywhere special for breakfast -- to me there isn't that big of a difference between breakfast offerings to make a special trip. I did not care for Tonga Toast, though I'm not big on bannana. Kona's dinner menu is great, though. Plus they have wonderful desserts -- If you have kids, they will love the Mickey Cone. My vote is definately for dinner.

I've had all 3 meals at the Kona Cafe, and my favorite meal, overall, is DINNER because I LOVE the Steak Teriyaki!!

The Tonga Toast is great, and I am looking forward to trying the Macadamia Nut pancakes on our next trip. But otherwise, like other people have said, they serve the standard breakfast menu.

But if I had to choose only one meal to have there, it'd be dinner. I have pictures from the Kona Cafe on my web site, the link is below, if you want to take a look :)

We had dinner there Monday night for the first time and it was excellent. I had the crab cake appetizer and the Steak Terriyaki (mentioned earlier) and both were superb. Our DD had the seafood chowder and said it was great. DW had some sort of noodle dish and she and DS loved it. Kona clearly gets overshadowed by 'Ohana, but we really liked it.

I go for breakfast every trip, and have not been disappointed.

As far the Tonga Toast goes, some people love it, and some hate it. I personally think its kind of disgusting. One bite tastes good, but eating the whole thing is gluttunous. Its VERY sweet, and VERY heavy. I had it a couple of years ago, and felt awful the whole day. I'll never get it again.

WE had dinner there last week and it was awesome. It was the best meal we had all week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had both breakfast and dinner there last week. The Pineapple macadamia nut pancakes where wonderful. For dinner we tried the prime rib and the filet - both excellent. No flames - but I'm probably one of the few who is not thrilled with their desserts. Had the white choc cheese cake and was not impressed. Reminded me of something you could get from your grocerers freezer (just my opinion). This has been a 'must do' for us for a few years now and never disappoints. Hoping to sneak one more meal in before leaving Saturday.

I got back Monday and we ate dinner there twice this trip we loved it so much. Everything from appetizer to dessert is excellent, it's now definitely a fave of ours for it's uniqueness. If you go, try the sticky wings, they are fabulous!

I had the macadamia pineapple pancakes last October and have been craving them ever since. Wonderful! You get I think 3 huge pancakes that are cooked perfectly with a huge glob of macadamia nut butter that is filled with chunks of toasted nuts. I ordered mine with the pineapple on the side because I wasn't sure I'd like cooked pineapple on pancakes and although it was scrumptious I will always order the pineapple on the side because I like to control the sweetness myself and I don't like mushy pancakes! You also get your choice of meat, I had a huge piece of ham (that went great with the pineapple) but you could also get bacon or sausage! Yum!!

I love Kona Cafe for Breakfast and Dinner. If I had to choose one over the other it would have to be Breakfast. I just love the Tonga Toast and the other Breakfast entrees they offer are delicious!

We enjoy Kona Cafe for breakfast. Split the Tonga Toast, while very yummy it is very filling. DH loves the eggs benedict. We've had some great waitstaff there as well. Never been there for dinner but this trip is all about new restaurants or new times at old favorites we will be there for dinner and not breakfast. So we'll see.

Seeing as you can't have Koko Puffs at breakfast, I'd have to say definitely go for dinner. We make a trip to the Poly just for that wonderful dessert.
