:flower: Okay I must admit I was surpised on how good it was! The service was the best! I forgot our waiters name, but he said he was from Cuba and grew up in California but now loves Orlando! Anyways, he was the best waiter on our entire trip. I really should write a letter to Disney about him! We ordered the pot stickers to share. I should have ordered more, very excellent! My son was coming down with a cold and wanted the chicken soup as his meal. It was the only think he ate all day that didn't hurt his throat. My DH had the Shrimp and Scallops (panko breaded shrimp and pan seared scallops with sushi rice and ponzo, spicy guava-passion fruit and wasabi cream sauces. He didn't know everything he was eating but he loved it and wouldn't share it with me! lol I had a macademia and coconut crusted chicken breast with a warm argula salad with mangos. I loved this! The chicken was cooked perfectly moist. The flavors just melted in my mouth. I must get the recipe! I couldn't finish it all and was too full for dessert. It is funny because the dessert was the main reason for trying Kona's! My kids shared the Kiddie Kone and couldn't finish it all! They wanted to take it back to the room! My DD had the pasta and meatball. The serving was huge! Our waiter suggested a drink called sand in your pants. It was a pina colada swirled with strawberry margarita. Very tasty! My DH had a great Belvedere martini. The kids had mickeys ( shirley timples). The only negative thing I could say about our experience is that it is very loud! They should look into making it more enclosed to cut down on the loudness. This is a another must do on future trips! :flower:

Thanks for the review. Kona Cafe is probably my favorite WDW restaurant overall, a must-do every trip, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it too. I was surprised to hear there was a problem with noise when you were there though, because one of the many things I love about Kona is that it's fairly quiet and relaxing. Hopefully it was just a fluke, and you'll find it quieter when you visit in the future. :)

There were tons of people at the bar on that level and just standing around on that floor. It was busy like Magic Kingdom parade. It was hard just walking through to get to the check in counter. Oh yeah, the fireworks were just getting ready to start. Maybe that is why.

We ate there last year for dinner and loved it. You can get Sand in your Pants at any of the WDW pool bars that have the premade frozen drinks machines. We've had it at the Polynesian pool, and the CBR pool.

Okay, I found my reciept and our wonderful waiter was Maykel! He was the best one we had the whole trip of 12 days! :flower:

Thanks for the Kona Cafe review. Reading it brought back wonderful memories of dinner there in January. I ordered the potstickers too and got to eat the wrappers! My DD2 ate the filling. DH had the crab cake and loved it, which is amazing since we live in Maryland and he is a Marylander born and bred. I was frankly amazed at the quality and taste of the food at Kona and look forward to going back to the Poly to eat there. And of course for breakfast, 2 words -- Tonga Toast!! :cheer2:

Great review. We really enjoy Kona too. Luckily we have never found it too noisy, but it seems to be fairly empty when we are there. I have to admit I like the way its open to the lobby of the GCH, and I try to request a table along the railing. I feel it adds to the atmosphere. ;)

Thanks for the wonderful review. We always eat breakfast at kona on every trip but it has been several years since we had dinner there. After reading your review we are going to put it on our to do list for our next trip. :flower:

The Kona is one of my favorites also, the shrimp and scallop dish sounds wonderful. Look forward to going next Jan.

Oh Dear I may just have to change one of my PS"s now! I keep reading how wonderful Kona cafe is! :flower:

So glad to hear you had a wonderful meal at Kona! The food and service here really is special. This is one of our favorite WDW restaurants. The Macadami encrusted Mahi Mahi and the Sticky Wings are both yummy!

We ate there twice last trip.

The first time was a very pleasant surprise and we found it to be lovely.

The second time was right after the MK closed and the noise was a bit high because of how busy the bar and lobby were after the park. Still a nice time but I understand what you mean about the noise. Also we had some really unpleasant hotel guests nearby and we really felt sorry for our server because of them.

It's unfortunate that Kona is where it is. There is always a lot of noise due to the proximity to Ohana and the Tambu Lounge--not to mention the noise easily heard from the lobby below. Not a whole lot they can do about it tho. To me Kona still has the feel of the coffee shop that preceeded it(Coral Isle Cafe) and that's the primary reason I've never had dinner at Kona.

We love Kona Cafe and have done both lunch and dinner there. Definately a must do for us.

I thought Kona was a coffee shop, too! We passed it briefly a couple of trips ago. Does not sound like coffee shop food, however!

:flower: I would rate it up with Brown Derby and Jiko! Don't let the casual atmosphere fool you! :flower: Maybe I shouldn't say anything because if Disney gets wind of this they will make it into a siganature restarant! lol

I have never ate at Kona. Coral Isle Cafe yes. I love ohana for breakfast. My ds and dd love ohana, but I'll have to try it the next time.
