Kona Cafe Breakfast - is it really worth it?

I have been hearing a ton of negative reviews of Kona Cafe lately. Is breakfast still good? Or has it gone downhill with the rest of the meals?

We are staying at the Contemporary and need one more monorail resort breakfast that isn’t a character meal. Kona Cafe was the natural choice, but now I’m second guessing if it’s even worth a trip. Maybe we should just eat breakfast at The Wave twice.

OMG YES! Do the Wave twice! its so good! on my last trip i loved it so much I ate there twice for breakfast (and once for dinner). No shame at all. Their breakfast buffet is simple but so good. And i love their made-to-order french toast and eggs benedict (included in the price). Plus, mimosa is also included in the price. Cant go wrong. This place is a hidden gem. :)

Kona is good, but it doesnt hold a candle to the wave.

We still enjoy Kona. It's clearly personal opinion, but I would never do the same restaurant twice on a WDW trip. Too many good places to eat at!

I just ate at Kona in March and still enjoyed it. I have to say I went to the Wave when I stayed at the GF and was underwhelmed based on so many positive reviews. I also enjoy the Grand Floridian Cafe.

Another option (non-monorail, but you are at CR so it's not too far by boat) is Whispering Canyon Cafe. I have really enjoyed all of my lunches there and have to make it over to breakfast one day!

The Kona Cafe for breakfast is my must-do! So much so that I've had a little card waiting for me on the table saying Welcome Back!

We have never thought Kona was that great the few times we have had breakfast there over the years. You could take a boat to WL for WCC or go to FW for Trail’s End. We love them!

The Wave is really good. We also enjoy the Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast if you wanted to stay on the monorail.

I love Kona - have booked it for my next trip. The pineapple macadamia nut pancakes are calling my name!

So what you are saying is that I should cancel Kona and book the Wave? Think I will do just that.

Do you have a particular love for pineapple and macadamia nut pancakes or Tonga Toast or French pressed Kona coffee?
These items are what make Kona different, otherwise it is standard Disney breakfast, eggs, meat, cheese, potatoes.

We tried Kona breakfast one time after hearing all the hype about it. It was and still is the worst dining experience we've ever had at a Disney restaurant. I truly believe that we had a fluke morning, but it was so bad it doesn't make me want to try it again. The food was terrible and the service was terrible. I had talked this up to my DH so much about how a great of a breakfast spot it was. I left the restaurant in tears because it was so bad and I felt like such an idiot making us get up super early so we could go there before heading to the parks.

YES! You will honestly not regret it. In November it was $21 per person I think? For all that food, plus made to order items, plus mimosa's included, you really cant go wrong. :)

We eat at Kona Cafe for breakfast once every trip so I have a fairly large sample size to base opinions on. I will say it is definitely not as good as it was a few years back, but isn't bad either. I wouldn't go to Kona expecting an amazing experience, but it's a decent enough option for a standard Disney breakfast.

We have a once per trip for any table service restaurant rule because there are just way too many great choices. So, having said that, I would probably go Whispering Canyon, just because you get to tour the Wilderness enhancements as part of the journey. Otherwise Kona or Grand Floridian Cafe are fine mix it up choices. It is breakfast after all, hard to screw up. Oh, at WCC the skillet is all you care to eat, so they’ll keep refilling it so bring an appetite.

On the monorail, of the 3 non-character best, we enjoy GFC best, then Kona, then the Wave. The food and atmosphere of The Wave is just very Hilton-hotelish.

I currently have Kona booked for a breakfast and a dinner on my upcoming trip in September.

Wondering if I should reevaluate, at least dinner, and maybe eat somewhere in MK that night.

GFC and Kona arent even in the same ball park as The Wave. Don't get me wrong, they're good. But the wave is so much better. The Wave has a really delicious variety of food. I love that mimosa is included in the buffet price as well as a couple of made to order items such as french toast. BTW the fancy flavoured butters that is served with the french toast is pretty amazing. :)

If you don't want to do the buffet, you can strictly order off the menu. Totally up to you. But The Wave is really good, pretty affordable too, and it has a lovely atmosphere.

The breakfast is good, but you can hop over to Capt. Cooks and get the Tonga Toast and save a few bucks.

My family LOVED Wave for breakfast. I felt that it was a nicer breakfast at any other hotel, but I did like the "healthier" options like Sweet Potato pancakes.
