well just returned from a whirlwind 4 day trip ..no kids....hubby at swan/dolphin convention.
Yeah...I resort hopped.
Kona Cafe was my favorite place.
I went at about 1130 am one day and asked if I could get the breakfast still....yes and so I did! Oh My God!!!!!!!!!!
Tonga toast....Yes it is all that! it was like heaven for me.....with my huge thermos of kona coffee and peace and quiet I was planning to stay forever.
It was so good I then and there booked my husband and I in for dinner the following evening.
I had the thai noodles! They were amazing. The vegetables tasted like they just came out of the garden! The peas were so fresh and the pineapple was perfect. There was soooo much chicken I didn't think I would be able to finish it.
Ohhhh....they bring out this hawaiin bread ...it's a huge round loaf accompanied by macadamia butter----I thought my husband was going to just eat the butter! We ate the whole loaf and all the butter.
My husband had the coconut chicken and it was the biggest piece of chicken I have ever seen. It came with an asian type salad with strawberries and it was delicious....yes he let me have some.
We ordered Sangria also. We had hoped it was the same recipe they use at mama melrose but it wasn't ....still drank it though.
We were too full for dessert.
I am now looking at our march trip and planning at least one night there for dinner and I have to take the family there for breakfast also. Wish we could stay there.
After dinner we went out to the beach for the M.K fireworks which were fabulous.

My new favorite restaurant!:lovestruc

Thanks for posting. Kona is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW--great breakfast and dinner.

Glad you enjoyed one of our very favorites. We are going to DW in July for 2 weeks and I have 1 breakfast and 2 dinner ADRs for Kona. Can't wait!!!:goodvibes

We also ate at Kona for breakfast and dinner on our last trip and loved it. We will be dining at there again in May.

Glad to hear that Kona is consistently being reviewed so highly. During our December, 2007 trip, DH fell in LOVE with Tonga Toast - he said it was the best item he ate during the entire trip - LOL! For our September trip, under threat of divorce, we are eating there at least once, but I wanted to add the Kona dinner as well. We might actually cancel Ohana dinner and do Kona twice if this keeps up!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Kona's dinner when we were there in Dec!! In May we booked breakfast but won't have time for dinner sadly. :(

we LOVE Kona!
i had the Tonga Toast, we also did a lunch and a dinner there ( we stayed at the Poly!)
i had the scallops and the crab cakes, and omg they were sooooooo good.
also the lunch turkey club........very very yummy!
and yes the bread and butter at dinner, i could have just sat there for hours eating it........LOL

We love Kona for breakfast too! We usually get the "Big Kahuna"? and split it. It's huge and always delish! We went last month and they had a new pineapple sauce over the pancakes. Oh my gosh! It was great!!! I wanted to go back and get it again, but we didn't make it this trip. It is a must do every trip!

I currently have an ADR for Kona for breakfast AND dinner...but I am thinking of changing my dinner ressie's to something different since we won't be there that long I don't know if I want to do the same place twice! (Even though they are different meals) This review thread is starting to make me think otherwise, though!

Were you able to get the pineapple bread for breakfast or was it just available for dinner?

I had the turkey club for lunch, yes very good. It was huge I could not eat it it all. My husband liked his hamburger also. He also liked the kona coffee.

Ate at Kona Cafe for dinner 2/8. The boss had the macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi, I had the Tuna Oscar, number one son had the filet minus the sauce.
Un-flippin' believeable food. The bread and butter is a bonus!
Get the Kona Kone too.

I keep hearing about the wonderful bread at Kona. Is it available anywhere else at the Poly or just at Kona?
Thanks!
Lynn

Everything about that dish has me drooling! We are planning dinner there in Oct. and I can't wait.

As fas as the Tonga Toast, it sounds absolutely divine. However, I'm almost scared to try it. I know it's not a sandwich, but when I read how people describe it, it kind of reminds me of the monte cristo at Bennigans. DH and I both got so sick off of one of those (so bad I thought I was dying, well not that bad, but pretty close!)

Kona Cafe is one of my favorites too. I love the pancakes at breakfast and the bread at dinner is amazing! Does anyone know if there is a web site were you can get the recipe? I would love to make it at home.
