Is this a crazy idea??

My boyfriend and I are headed down to celebrate my birthday :woohoo: And he kind of wants to try Tonga Toast. Last week my grandparents and I had an ADR for Kona (breakfast) on Tuesday and they were telling people w/out them it was a 10-15 minute wait...which it was def. shorter than. Do you think it would be any different on ESPN Weekend or the fact it's a Sunday??

If you know you want to go there, why not go ahead and make an ADR. Better safe than sorry!

Mainly because I have no idea if we'll be waking up early and ready to go by 8 or if we'll be sleeping in and be ready to go more like 10

And since we're heading home that day and checking out of the hotel, I'm more inclined to play it by ear so we're not rushed.

Though that's the exact same advice I'd give someone else :goodvibes

After I posted I did have a brainstorm  if we can't walk up (or the wait is like an hour) we can head downstairs to Captain Cook's for Tonga Toast. Though we'd prefer sit down. So we have a back up :thumbsup2

Why not make the ADR FOR 10? That way you don't have to rush and if you do get up earlier, you can head to Kona and see if they can seat you earlier.

The food court (Captain Cooks?) at the Poly also serves Tonga Toast. If you don't want to make an ADR and can't get in you can still have Tonga Toast for breakfast.

I do think that there will be more of a wait on Sunday than other days. You have a greater chance of locals also wanting Tonga Toast on their day off. I agree with a PP that you make a ressie for 9 or 10 and if you end up getting up early, head on down and grab a table. You'd be more likely to get a table without an ADR at 8 than at 10 anyway. I personally would want a sit down meal before going through the misery of the airport, but that's just me and my hatred of all things involved with flying (although I also would not be comfortable without them).

I agree. Earlier is better at Kona for breakfast. One Sunday in Sept 08' we arived at Kona at 9:00 w/o ADR's to find an HOUR wait. needless to say we didn't wait, but the hostess told us that USUALLY before 8 there is no wait and after 9 or so, can be major waits.

We have always made a trip to Kona and always, always have made an ADR. There were times we walked right in with at least an hour wait and there were times no on else was there.
It never hurts to have an ADR.

If you can get adr's why not. I would never go to Disney without them.

I second (or third) the suggestion to make an ADR for 10 and if you are ready earlier, then see if they can seat you earlier. There's just something about enjoying your Tonga Toast while watching the waterfalls and doing some serious people watching while people wait to get into Ohana. The Kona is our check-out day tradition, so I always make sure to have an ADR so we aren't shut out of our tradition!
