Kohls return policy

My son got a bunch of clothes for Christmas that are too small for him from Kohls. In the past when I have returned his clothes to Kohls without a receipt, they give you back very little in merchandise credit. Is it possible to exchange without a receipt? I'm not sure if I can even get the same things in bigger sizes though, as he is a 2T and these clothes are 24 months which is probably the biggest they come in.

Can you ask for the receipt from the gift giver? That is really the only way you will be guaranteed that your credit will be for what the gift-giver paid.

Otherwise, they will most likely calculate the lowest possible price that could have been paid for those items, taking into account 30% discounts, $10 bonus cash, on Black Friday, and just before Christmas, as well as an allowance for potentially $15 that the gift giver might have received for Kohl's Cash.

Too bad they just didn't include a gift receipt with this gift.

Although it has been years since I routinely purchased that size of clothes, I doubt that the 24 month clothes could be "even-exchanged" for something in the 2T,3t sizes.

I have been able to even exchange for an item that was the same original price when they didn't have the size I needed in an item. Try going that route.

My experience with even exchange is that you can exchange for anything in the store with the same original price--so if the child's outfit says 29.99 as the original price, you can exchange for anything else that says 29.99. It has to be the EXACT price.

I know this used to be the policy--I worked there during holiday college breaks. Or you can get store credit which will be dramatically reduced.

without a receipt if it was bought with a kohls charge they can look up how much you paid. If not, you will only get what it is currently selling for, or an exchange of the same item in a different size.

This is correct. I was there today and that is exactly how it works.

I was also there today for an exchange. They still do it this way. My DD didn't like one of the sweaters I got her and picked out several things in exchange. I had also given her the $30 in Kohl's Cash I got from the original purchase which included the sweater. Even though I had the receipt the cashier said she could not make an even exchange unless the two original prices matched (in my case $50) without the Kohl's cash being adjusted. I found it all kind of confusing as I was not getting any money back...I was actually spending more than the credit and did not understand why they would adjust my Kohl's cash downward. I didn't argue or anything but I must have looked confused because another cashier took over found a way to do the whole exchange without touching the Kohl's cash. I still do not know how it is really supposed to work.
