I have a question does anyone know what a recovery associate is at Kohl's? My daughter was just offered a position at a new store that is opening.

This is just a guess, but I'm gonna say its probably their term for security personell. At Target we call it Assets Protection.

Recovery in retail usually means putting items back in proper condition (ie: buttoned, zipped, etc.) in their proper places. IOW cleaning off the roll racks near the dressing rooms, cleaning out the dressing rooms, putting back returns from the service desk, etc.

This is kind of what we were thinking.

I'm a manager at Kohls :)
Recovery is a 'floor' associate who basically refolds, rehangs and keeps the departments tidy :)

Any tips for a 17 year old girl who would love to work at Kohls after school & on weekends? :)

Kohls *will* hire 17yr olds, but they prefer 18 and up...so she'd have to REALLY sell herself with asking to speak to the manager, being upbeat and friendly and dressed nice when she turns in her app to them personally. If the mgmt team never sees her face, and only sees *17* on the application, honestly, her shot is VERY minimal. And, for our area anyways, we won't be doing much hiring until about Oct1... but dont wait much after that to try for holiday help...come Nov1, we should be staffed for Xmas!

At Target we just call them sales floor team members. Cause everybody has to help in making the store look nice.

Not to hijack the thread but one more question, is Kohls willing to hire PT during school hours, like a 9-2 gig. DH works crazy hours so right now I am a SAHM, and would need to be home for the kids.

yeah, basically the same thing....every company calls it something different :)

umm...if you put M-F 9-2 on your app, you probably wont get a call.
Now....if you put 8am (opening) and have good customer service background AND are available weekends, then its possible. But if you arent' available weekends, retail probably isn't for you... Also, in least in our market, hiring won't come up for another couple months. THe only thing that I've noticed Kohls have a hard time keeping are their adset associates... They generally work 7pm to 1am a couple times a week..

Then this is a PERFECT job for her. She does this every where we go and has since as far back as I can remember. I can remember her at 5 organizing the toys on the store shelfs.

oh well it was worth asking. Kids get on bus at 8 so that wont work. Weekends invlove drving one kid to one game while DH drives to the other. Thanks for answering. And nights are the same issue, DH is in sales and his job is not consistent, if the client wants to go to dinner or the meeting runs long, then I need to get the kids where they need to be for extracurriculars.

Thanks for the tips!

I heard of Ad set before but didn't know the hours. That would be perfect for me and I could get a discount.:goodvibes

I have always wondered why so many retail places alienate the people who can only work weekdays. I get that they prefer people who have 100% availability, I used to be a restaurant manager so I know how it's easiest to write a schedule with employees like that. But we seemed to have a ton of people to work the weekends (restaurants usually have mostly college aged applicants) but we had a hard time staffing the weekday lunches. So I would LOVE some cute, hip mom to do a bunch of lunch shifts. I don't care if you don't have weekend availability, that's fine by me. Most of our employees were in school then, so I was in a pinch for weekday days.

I would think retail would be the same, but I guess not!! I am going back to work in 3 weeks, and I was hoping to avoid restaurants, wanted a retail job this time around (I have been out of work for 2 years).

Anyway, I wish the moms going back to work luck! I can only do 10-3 monday through friday. I am not trying to be a princess, but my DH works evenings and weekends, and childcare for 3 kids when I am only making $8 an hour isn't really feasible, you know?

I see where you're coming from... but from a morale standpoint... everyone there would love the M-F 10-2 job.... but, unfortunately, that's not the busy time. We need people there to be there when the customers shop. They tend to shop nights and weekends. Full timers take up the bulk of day shifts, thats why the part timers need to be much more flexible....

What is an adset associate? Those hours would work for me!

Adset team are the ones who come in the evening before the sales (Ads) change, and they come change our signage for us so it is ready for the store opening the next day.... Need to be comfortable with PCs (Palm Pilots)

She started out as POS supvr & was promoted quickly. She has transferred to another city to take a new store that opened a while back. I am very proud of her, but I miss her terribly!
