I am looking for a small video camera and I like the idea that the Kodak Playsport is waterproof up to 10 feet. I also read that it takes still shots too. Any opinions out there from owners of one? Thanks

We love ours! I use it mostly for beach vacations, as it takes great outdoor shots and underwater/ snorkeling ones too! I actually use the picture mode a little more than the video mode, but both work great.
It is not so great in low light(indoors) though, as it doesn't have a flash.

For portability and the fact that it is waterproof, I use this as a go to camera to throw in my pocketbook every day. :thumbsup2

I've been watching it for aobut a year. I think it would be great to take to the beach, pool, etc. Gets great reviews. HD video and takes still shots. Supposed to be good in low light. Better at video than still. Great reviews at amazon and zdnet.

Been waiting for it to hit $99 at Amazon...

The closest deal will be 11-23 and 24 at sears.com with coupon code TURKEYDEAL which will make it $104 + tax with free ship on all video >$100.
I might bite.

If you don't care about HD or stills, the kodak mini will be $39 on black friday CVS. It's waterproof but reviews are mixed.

I just bought my nephew one for Christmas based on reviews on Amazon. I got a bundle that came with a case, tripod, and extra memory for around $118. That definitely beats the price of a Flip.

We got a Playsport in September right before our Disney trip. Love it!!! I think I paid $119 from Amazon. I don't think I touched it all week. The kids and DH took turns with it.

I got one for 114.00 on Amazon a few weeks ago- not sure if I LOVE it....but I like it! the video quality is not GREAT, but it's not too bad..... it's small, tough, and waterproof, and I have been wanting something waterproof for years! I have had some issues as far as uploading into my computer though, and I still haven;t worked it out all the way (windows vista)
I decided to keep it,as I didn't have any video camera at all,and I've also been wanting to take more videos of life too!
all in all ,for approx. 100.00 a great deal! I bought an 8 gb sdhc card also for about 15.00,which gives us at least 1 1/2 hours of video......

I've bought mine about 1 month ago and use it to tape my dd's gymnastics meets. It has been working well for me. I do not have any problems uploading it to my computer and my latest video I actually added music to. I'm not a pro or anything, but it works for me and I like it.

Actually just bought a "blue" one for my dd for Christmas. (I own the black one.)

We've had our Kodak Playsport for a long while now and are thrilled with it! I've dropped it a few times and it's held up with no issues. Water videos are fun!

Love our Playsport. Take it with us everywhere. Videos are higher quality than a Flip. Waterproof helps even when it's just really humid out... like Orlando!

It's a micro-USB charger port so I use the charger for my phone, the playsport and the Kindle. Saves a lot of space that way.

I love mine!! I used it at the Poly pool and at Typhoon Lagoon - I even have video of me and ds swimming with the sharks!

The stills are gorgeous too!

I got mine last Saturday, but I made the mistake of not buying a memory card from amazon at the same time. You will get the best videos if you use a class 10 memory card, which you can't buy in any stores around me (they sell class 2 - great for cameras, not for video.)

Memory card should be arriving any time now, so I will finally be able to try it out. I researched the flip and the playsport, and the reviews just made me lean toward this one. Plus, the blue is pretty :)

Good advice on the memory card. It makes a difference!

We love our Playsport. Got it on Amazon for our trip to WDW this past July. I shoot in the 720P HD mode--I actually like that better than the full HD--and the video is teriffic! The biggest downfall is that the still camera is only 5MP (still not a bad thing) and it has no flash(the biggest bummer to me).

My DD bought herself a Fujifilm finepix XP10 http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-XP10...TVXW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1290197286&sr=8-4 and it is also waterproof, shockproof, and shoots video. I liked the camera (12MP) but the video quality was not the same as the Playsport. So I'd say you have to decide what's more important to you. Both are great and I would recommend them.:thumbsup2

We are water people--my kids are fish and spend most of their lives in a pool(both on swim team year 'round), so waterproof was important to us. It works.

ETA--the camera is waterproof, but it does not float. I recommend finding something to help keep that on your wrist under water. We used an elastic hair tie--wrapped around the wrist strap and the pulled to adjust to our wrists.

I like ours a lot, although I haven't used it a whole lot yet.

I bought our Playsport this past August for our vacaction at the lake. I really love it! I haven't used it underwater yet though. Love the ease of the controls and how it fits in my hand. I also like how easy it is to switch between different modes. Like a PP I also shoot in 720P HD and really can't see a difference. Also I've been using a Class 6 SDHC card and I think that's what's been making the video a little 'choppy' when doing playback on the computer (anyone have thoughts on this?). I just picked up a 8gb Class 10 card from Amazon for 12.99, hopefully that will solve the problem. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNKNEG/ref=oss_product (have to order the 'frustration free' packaging). Also, I purchased mine at Best Buy, they priced matched Amazon's price and I have gift cards I wanted to use. Otherwise I would have purchased right from Amazon.

ordered this for DS, but I went thru Sears..they actually matched amazon and then the additional 10% off and free delivery! $98.10 + tax....$106.19 total which I am happy with since I did not have to go out in the cruddy weather for. Normally I wouldhave just gone with Amazon, but sears return policy is more liberal and not sure if this is exactly what DS is after so needed that flexibility of a brick and mortar. Anyway, SO happy to read actual opnions from here, I read tons of reviews on amazon, and I guess the battery life is an issue...anyone here run into that?

Love our Playsport. Bought it this summer after investing in our first boat. Awesome video memories captured IN the water. Took it to Disneyland and my boys took turns taking it down the waterslide at PPH. They had a blast. I just tried the Kodak Picture Maker for the first time. You are able to go through your video frame by frame and make prints that way so no worries about switching back and forth between modes. I got some great pics that way, Not pro quality but fun!

I just purchased the Kodak Mini (which is also waterproof) for our cruise this coming February. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Mini and the Playsport?

Thanks,
Linda

The mini is smaller and not HD.

DS LOVES his! He was excited about it Christmas morning, but then got REALLY pumped when he took it to swim practice!:thumbsup2 Nothing like a bunch of high school goof balls at swim practice once they know there is a camera involved...:rotfl: the coach freaked when DS jumped into the water with it, thought DS jumped in with his phone becasue it is that small. So far, so good...nifty little gizmo.
