I am by no means a great photographer, but I do like simple and easy. I have been eyeing the Kodak V610 6.1 mgpxl with 10x optical zoom. I was just wondering if anyone here has any opinons on this camera good or bad, or something in the same range with simialr (easy) Options.

Thanks in advance, and happy holidays.

thank you. I will look into something else.:thumbsup2

I have a Kodak easyShare DX4530 which is an earlier model with 5 mega pixels. It is very easy to use the camera, easy to download pics and share. I also have the photodock which makes it easy to print the pics.

What I don't like is the delay in time between pics. I miss many action shots because of the delay. When I use the auto feature which has the red eye reduction, my subjects can't move a muscle or the pic will blur. Same with the night setting. The only way I can get clear pics of my subjects is on the sport setting. When I'm in the market for a new camera, I won't be getting a similar model. I will look for something with quicker time between pics that takes pics without the blur.

Anything Kodak doesn't get a great review on these boards, but I'm hooked! I have the DX7440 (4MP) and just got the z650 (6MP) for Xmas. I love the settings (specifically indoor and sport). The z650 takes a lot faster photos and has a much bigger zoom lens. I've been 100% satisfied with Kodak, even having a problem after I bumped my old camera on something and they fixed it for no charge.

Though I've not specifically used or reviewed the v610. Check out dpreview.com for reviews.

When looking at a camera with a long zoom, there is one feature that is almost a must have... image stabilization. It makes a huge difference on how easy it will be to capture images that are not blurry from camera motion caused by you not keeping it still enough. I would not even consider one that does not have this feature.

The best thing to do is go out and compare in person. Bring along a memory card or two if you can. Most places will let you use your card to take a few pics. Also do not forget to take a little notebook b/c after you look at 5-10 different models, they all start to blend together.

DPReview is a great site for reviews. It is a little strange that you say to look there when it gives your z650 a pretty bad review. It only gets an above average. Anyone familiar with that site knows that anything below recommended is actually giving it a bad review. It gives the v610 an even lower rating.

I am not trying to start a war over Kodak, but I really think that the OP's money could be better spent on a Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic, etc. Kodak is very good at marketing and it shows. They are able to sell tons of units even though they almost always compare lower than the other brands. It does not hurt them that they are in every retail chain store around.

What I do not understand is why Kodak owners get so defensive when someone says something negative about them even though there is evidence to support the claim. We are not criticizing you at all. We are criticizing Kodak. With their marketing power and worldwide brand recognition, if they put out a top of class camera, they would likely take over the market. For some reason they choose to put out half hearted attempts.

my daughter has the same one as you i think...i can't find the exact name but i know it was dx and is 4 mp...she has not been able to use it for low light conditions at all. in bright light outdoor the pictures can be fine but low light they are terrible. as in unusable. in her case they were vacation photos from a once in a life time trip to the amazon so basically 1/2 her rainforest pictures are ruined. so imo that cancels out a passing review for it and would hate to see someone else have shots they really want turn out so horribly...my other daughter has a canon and it takes great pictures inside and out so why spend the money on a camera you can only get partial use from. sorry i would never recommend a camera that is this bad no matter what brand it is...the photo is after hrs of trying to improve it with pse5, it 's worse straight from the camera
