KOA Savannah South

. Actually, the KOA you are refering to is located in Richmond Hill and not Savannah. Both may be about the same distance from Savannah.

It's like the Allentown, PA KOA is in New Tripoli. There's nothing to see in New Tripoli, so they advertise attractions in and around Allentown. If you read the description in the KOA directory, the Savannah South KOA, while in Richmond Hill, emphasizes it's closeness to Savannah and the attractions there. I'm pretty sure Richmond Hill doesn't have much, and the only thing in the area is Ft. Stewart. I've been to Ft. Stewart, and I wouldn't vacation there. The name, however, is Savannah South KOA, not the Richmond Hill KOA.

So Donnie, if you were just going to Savannah for two nights, with a total of four adults in your party, would you stay at the KOA or Skidaway? We would be going mainly for Savannah, not because we are looking for a FW type experience. Does the KOA have sewer? And one more final question...if our black tank fills up while we are there and there isn't sewer, do we drive the RV to the dump stations or is there an easier way to dump the tank? Sorry for all these questions. One day Toby and I will be seasoned campers like all of you.

There are sewer hookups at the KOA. I guess you could just dump your tanks at the site at Skidaway, but I'm pretty sure your neighbors would object. You have to drive your trailer to the dump station and hook up your sewer hose, dump the tanks, then pack everything up. There will most likely be a hose there, too. Be a sport and hose down any "spillage."

I think you've got a pretty good size black tank so just 2 nights shouldn't be enough to worry about filling it. Not to be really descriptive but when I dry camp I try to get the boys to go to the comfort station or tree lol. I would just keep an eye on the levels. I would definately say SISP. The trees and park itself are worth the visit.

Toby and I were discussing this last night and our vote is that our son-in-law will have to go to the comfort station to use the rest room! Believe me, it is in all of our best interests...and not just from the black tank standpoint! I'll go online when I get off of work and see what I can find at Skidaway. I can't wait to take the RV out again!!! It's been sitting in the driveway since our FW trip.

We have stayed at Savannah South KOA several times on our way to the Fort.

It's a very nice campground on the shore of a pretty little lake. There are geese, ducks, swans and every evening several hundred egrets come and roost on the trees covering two small islands in the lake. It's quite a pretty spot.

The campground had full services including large pull-thru sites, free WiFi, sewer and cable TV. There are plenty of restaurants neaby if you don't feel like cooking. We've even had a pizza delivered to our site. YUM!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for an overnite - or even a longer stay!

We too were also going to use the Savanah KOA, so I am taking in all of the info discussed here. A side note: I know that our local campgrounds around here have a honey wagon, that you can call and they will come out and pump you out if you needed it ( for a small fee of course) Do you they have that service at KOA do you think? But I agree with the others, you should be good for the two nights without having to dump. We have a tt and a family of 4 and go the whole weekend without having to dump in between. Although, the kids know the "if its yellow let it mellow......brown flush it down rule" though......LOL:thumbsup2

If this KOA is like the others, they probably don't have a honey wagon because KOAs have full hook-ups so no need. I do agree for a couple days you shouldn't need to dump....use the shower house for everything except emergency middle of the night needs and it should be fine.

Believe it or not, there is a KOA in the Poconos with no sewer hook ups. They have 2 dump stations.

So is 9A good for motorhomes pulling a trailer too?

I have to admit I get nervous trying new routes. :rolleyes1
We usually take 295 around.

DH gets nervous also towing our 5r. He decided he'd rather try and hit JAX @ 6:30 a.m. than try the new route and since this is his leg of the trip to drive, if that's what he wants, that's what he gets. ;)

Thank you! :thumbsup2

Does it have multiple lanes? Didn't know if it was like a regular highway or an interstate.

It's 3 lane in some places and mostly 2.

It brings you to where 295 and 95 meet on the south side. It's exit 61A if you need to know. That dumps you back on 95 South.

Thanks for all the help. Sounds like a good way to go. We will give it a shot in November.
