Tuesday 5/3, Animal Kingdom Day! I'm looking forward to it because last year Bo Bo got sick and had to leave. During our little Anniversary trip in January, we also hit some bumps at AK. I was beginning to feel that DW just doesn't like the place. She insisted that I was wrong and that she too was looking forward to the AK.
But, first we had to eat. We drove over to the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. Breakfast there is a must do every time we come, and I thought my parents would enjoy it and the WL's Lobby. Uh oh, guess who's not feeling well? We had a hunch the night before that Bo Bo was getting sick. He let us know we were right during breakfast. Bo Bo loves to eat, and breakfast is his favorite meal. Knucklehead won't go near eggs, while Bo Bo would keep eating them (scrambled) as long as you kept some in front of him. But on this day, he was not eating, a sure sign that he was not well. Grandpa walked Bo Bo around the lobby while some of us finished eating the all you care to eat skillet. This morning we didn't care to eat much. Remind me not to schedule such an eary breakfast for this crowd again.
DW went to Guest Services to find a doctor. There was one who made "Disney Calls" but he was out of our price range and didn't accept our insurance. DW found an Urgent Care near by in Kissimmee that did. So, she decided to take Bo Bo over there alone while the rest of us went to the Animal Kingdom. Uh-huh
, my suspicions are growing.
Anyway, we dropped them off at the SOG and rolled on to the Animal Kingdom, the HOTTEST park in Disney World. We forgot the mister fan, it was on the stroller with Bo Bo, oops. "We'll be alright, it's not supposed to get that hot today." Hah!
We entered AK with no problems and headed over towards DinoLand, USA. We stepped up to measure Knucklehead for the Primeval Whirl, and he hadn't grown enough since Friday to ride it, shucks. We all did the Triceratop Spin instead. Then we went over to The Boneyard and let Knucklehead run wild, until I looked at the shows' schedules. Tarzan Rocks! was getting ready to start. I promised Knucklehead we'd come back and dig for bones after the show, but we had to get on over there. We all enjoyed the show. Knucklehead was enthralled by the skaters and the people spinning on the vines/ropes. I'm thinking he may be ready for La Nouba next trip.
Back in Dinoland, Knucklehead sees the games and the Grandparents have abandoned us for the Restrooms. I didn't have any cash except for Knucklehead's last two Disney Dollars. The CM at this one game (that cost $3) Knucklehead was looking at, asked if he wanted to play. I said, "He does, but he only has $2."
She handed him the balls and said, "Go ahead" as she took my son's last two Disney Dollars. Somehow, Knucklehead won. I was shocked, he was shocked, and the CM handed him a little stuffed dinosaur which became his favorite "sleep toy" for the rest of the trip. When the Grandparents showed up, I bummed a dollar and returned to the CM and handed it to her, and let her know she made Knucklehead's day.
As promised, we went back to The Boneyard. Knucklehead kept getting in trouble because he was digging so vigorously, he was throwing sand out behind him like a dog.
Hey Dad, look what I found.
From DinoLand we trekked on over to Africa for the Safari and some lunch. Or should I say, after getting Fast Passes for the Safari, we did lunch. But before lunch, Grandma asked Knucklehead if he wanted his face painted. What kid doesn't...right before a meal?
You OK? You're lookin' a little green.
Run for your lives! It's DinoMan!
Guess who doesn't like "black stuff" on his lips? And the clincher was when the CM told Knucklehead not to get his face wet.
We were planning on doing the Kali River Rapids later.
We ate at the Tusker House. Great food and a good deal. I got the Salmon again, and it was as good as I remembered from last year. My parents enjoyed the fried chicken sandwiches, and Knucklehead ate a drumstick and Mickey Cheddar Crackers (Goldfish), he won't eat mashed potatoes. Of course, before he could eat, Knucklehead had to wipe all the "black stuff" off of his lips. He wanted to keep wiping, but I told him not to worry, we'd do the Rapids. If his face got wet, it got wet, no big deal. He liked his face painting better after that.
After lunch, we boarded our Safari vehicle. They could have made this so much better. Why can't we just look at the elephants, instead of trying to fictitiously save one? Maybe we shouldn't have eaten first.
Is that Little Red?
After being properly jostled about, Grandma and Grandpa decided they wanted to do something tamer than the Rapids, so we decided to split up. Before our salutations, somebody's phone rang. It was DW. Knucklehead had a double ear infection.
She was getting his prescription filled, and would like to meet us at AK.
"No problem, call us when you get to the parking lot, I'll meet you at the drop off area, and we can unload Bo Bo and his stroller."
We waited around The Tree of Life for DW to call back. When she did, she was not happy, Bo Bo was not happy in the background, and she was lost. I talked her down, and she decided to just go back to the resort (uh-huh
) if she could find it.
So, where were we? Splitting up. My parents took off to catch the Festival of the Lion King, which Knucklehead didn't care to see again. It's one of the few things he saw the first year we came, and he was frightened by the fire. I don't remember there being fire, but he sure does.
We waited in line for the Rapids since the posted wait time was only 15 minutes, and the FP Return was in an hour. Be warned, if you go down the big hill backwards, you will get wet. We went down backwards.
We loved it. It was refershing, and Knucklehead's makeup didn't get ruined. What Dad hasn't worried about their son's makeup getting ruined? I just hope I'm not worrying about him getting a run in his stockings when he's in college.
We sloshed our way to The Oasis at the front of the park to meet my parents. Along the journey we picked up some Mickey hard chocolate covered ice creams on sticks.
My parents showed up at the Oasis a litle while after us. They had enjoyed the Festival, but had liked Tarzan more. We then left the park, another Bo Bo-less, DW-less Animal Kingdom visit complete.
