Knock off purses

My analogy was clearly messed up.

Thats ok I'm sure most people look at me and think my bags are fake but they're not. I don't dress up with a passle of kids along for the ride.

Coach as a knock off -

I could be wrong, but I think the Coach "Scribble" bag was a knock-off of the Louis Vuitton Murakami bags from 2001 or 2002 (ish).

I have real LV's and a fake one, that after a while, the leather didn't get honey colored like real LV's. I got is off Canal street, underground. LITERALLY. The "good" fakes are not sold on the street. You have to look for people flashing the symbol and be taken into a building, where they only let so many people at a time. Anyway, I gave it to my mom.

There are some "Prada's" that have a different triangle on the front, l that they will replace for you with a Prada logo upon purchase.

They get arrested ALOT.

Funny though, I have a huge red "C" logo real coach bag. A lady formthe TSA at LaGuardia, while chekcing my id, commented to the other TSA lasy thta tmy bag was fake. I said, excuse me? She relplied, "I looked for this bag at the coach store and they didn't have it, it's fake". I about died. I shoed her the coach stamp on the inside and told wehre I got it. I tol dher it was last year and that's why she couldn't find it. She didn't believe me.

Of all the knock off's, I think the Prada's look the most like the real ones. IMHO.

If there weren't knock-offs, nobody would think your bags are fake no matter how you dressed or who you were with.

Because anybody can buy a real looking one on a street corner, it downgrades what you have worked hard for and given up to purchas, don't you think? Instead of people saying, "Oh, look at that beautiful expensive bag she's carrying" they are thinking, "that must be a fake because she's also not wearing designer jeans and sunglasses to go with it."

I guess I was guilty of that thought myself.

It's the fake ones that would cause folks to think that, and that's kind of sad.

None of us should find our sense of self in an item, but I do think that designer purses and clothing are works of art and should stand on their own.
I think that if you love a good quality handbag and it makes you feel beautiful to carry one, knowing that they can be bought on a streetcorner for 20 bucks would be upsetting.

But, I don't know because I don't have one. I could never afford even a lower end LV. Maybe a keychain.

And I really don't believe that the counterfeit market is cannibalizing the true designer handbag crowd. Does anyone really believe that people are not buying real designer bags because there are bad knock-offs being sold in Times Square? "Ooh, I can buy a real bag for $175 or go to TS and buy a cheap looking knock off for $10. Hmmm, what should I do?"

Actually, I beg to differ. There are lots of cute, fun Coach styles that I will not buy because I know they'll be targets for the counterfeiters. Most of my Coach bags are all leather, without large logos or such. I do have one signature print, the small C's. I don't buy Coach because I want other people to notice that I'm wearing Coach, but because I like the leather, the styles, craftsmanship... and the price, which is quite reasonable compared to others.

And I wear my Coach bags with my Crocs!!! But only authentic Crocs, of course .

It does affect the "feel" of a bag when fakes are around. I hate seeing people carry the fakes. It diminshes the overall value of the real thing BUT I love Louis Vuitton and won't stop carrying them even with the fakes around. I can spot even the best of fakes and just shake my head in wonder. Why carry it as a status symbol that you can't or won't buy the real thing? Carry something thats original in your price range. KWIM?
ETA: Mine aren't status to me but a love for the designer.

I'm selfish. Now that I can afford a Coach bag, I won't get one, because too many people are carrying the fakes.

I don't know about terrorists, but when you carry a fake bag, it devalues the real ones. And, those of us who might have carried a real one, won't. And, I think it's stealing from the designer, who spent time and effort coming up with something beautiful. The knock-offs don't use the same materials or craftsmanship and many of them are made by children in third world countries.

I always wonder at the women I see carrying around a Louis Vuitton knock-off in a local grocery store wearing flips-flops, a stained tee shirt and Levis and pushing a runny-nosed kid in a cart. Do they really think they are fooling anybody? I suppose a woman carrying a $2,000 purse could be wearing jeans from 1995...but I don't think so. Why would anybody even carry a knock-off when there are perfectly nice, non-fake purses out there?

My advice? Save your money until you can afford the real one. It will last longer and you'll be prouder of it because you worked for it.

You're not kidding--I was just cleaning out some boxes the other day and found the first Coach bag I ever bought, which would've been sometime ca. 1992. It was before they started in with all of the fun patterns and different materials--it's navy blue leather, brass hardware, very simple, but the leather's just as supple as the day I bought the thing! It's almost like getting a brand new purse (but "vintage", of course ). Yay!

I've bought bags at K-Mart that may very well have been knock-offs. I don't see a cute purse then go do research to see if there is a more expensive version that I should purchase instead, so that someone won't be pissed off that people mistake their bag for the less expensive version. There are probably a lot of people who don't do that.

I just buy what's cute.

Ok, I don't understand the whole Coach purse craze. There seems to be a lot of people out there with them, and I can't see spending up to and over $300 on a purse. Money I would much rather spend on an annual pass to WDW. My purse limit is under $100 and really closer to $50.

So sure I have thought out picking up a cute fake purse if I went to NYC. Never thought about who I was funding though.

I might spend decent (but not that much) money on clothes. The thing is the right clothes make me look good (you know, what not to wear.) The right purse, just holds all my crap. Just the same as the cheap one.

I admit I sometimes see people with them and I might wonder if they are fake when I see people with them, but mostly because I can't imagine so many people spend the $ on real.

I don't go around wondering if peoples jewelry are fakes either. Doesn't really mater much to me.

I love coach, I love some LV styles, I am a purse addict. I could never rationalize spending $1000 on up on a purse, so most of my designer purses cost significantly less than that. But, I'd never buy a fake purse, no matter how much like that style. I'd rather go with out.

For those who question the link between counterfeits and terrorism, google handbags and terrorism together. You'll be amazed at what comes up.

And as far as the fakes go, no matter how good they are, generally, people who know the brand will recognize a fake as a fake. And sadly, you cannot go by the purse having a creed, serial number, hologram, etc. on the inside. The counterfeiters are faking them too.

Oops! My niece just bought me a fake bag in NY last week. She called me and told me about them and she was sooooo excited about getting me one. I wasn't upset about her buying a fake (although I really hope the money didn't go to terrorists), but I was a little upset when I found out she was going into strange back allies with the purse guys. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

I plan on carrying it every once in a while and when I am not using it keeping it on the shelf next to my collection of REAL Coach bags that I have mostly bought at the Coach outlet.

Sad story.......... When I was still post-pardomy after dd#2 I sold 7 coach bags to some lady at a garage sale for $15. I could cry about it still 5 years later! I don't know what I was thinking. My sister was talking about selling her wicker coach on ebay and I told her not to do it.

The last time I went to NYC I bought alot of things off the vendors on the streets. I buy it because I like it. I could care less if its real or fake. I could also care less what someone thinks of me because of it.
