Just curious.

On another board I frequent, a poster asked where in the Caribbean, she could find the best and the cheapest knock off purses.

My question is, why do you want them? :confused3 I'm not rich, by any means. But, when I find a purse I want, I watch for sales, ( basically stalking it waiting for a deal ) and buy when I'm happy with what I'm paying. I have several ( expensive ) bags, but I use one for a while, pack it up in my closet, use another and keep switching out. So, they last a long time.

It seems to me that the knock offs would be cheap, poor quality and ( I'm sorry, but it's true ) people CAN tell the difference. So, if you can't afford ( or chose not to pay ) the cost of a designer bag, why not just get a nice bag at Kohls or such and be happy with it, instead of buying a piece of ( IMO ) cheap junk?

I know when I was on the Wonder this spring, and we docked in Nassau, DD wanted to run to the straw market to look at wraps. On the way in, I heard a vendor comment to another vendor to "See, that lady over there has a real bag"....

So, if you are a fan of knock offs..just why? Help me understand.

I can spot a fake LV from a mile away. Even DH now can spot the fakes. If you are carrying a fake LV you must know that we all can tell it is fake and we are laughing at you for being a poser.

I do not own any fakes nor do I plan to. I buy a purse simply because I love it, and I am a purse fanatic.
There are def a ton of superficial people out there who are simply into keeping up with the Joneses and want to appear to be something they are not.
But I am also certain that there are people out there who simply love the look of a purse but when they cannot afford the original, which many cannot, they look for a cheaper alternative and do not care if people know it is a fake.

I had a friend who had a fake LV wallet that she got for $10 and argued with me for hours that it was the real thing. Come on. And she never backed down. But she didn't have any idea how much a real one cost, she thought maybe $100! LOL

I think it doesn't matter whether you carry the "real" thing or a "fake". As long as you are being real about yourself.

WOW!

I love designer purses just as much as the next fashionable lady but to call someone a poser just makes you sound rude and childish.

Oh please, who cares if a purse is real or fake? If you like it and it holds your stash, what's the big deal?

There are more important things in life.

I can always spot them so I have no idea why someone would think they can fake people out LOL I am always shocked when I go into the LV store and see someone in there browsing with thier fake trying to pull off that it is real

I bought my fake Coach because I refuse to pay 400-1200 on a purse when I have two children who have college savings funds. ;) It doesn't bother me a bit that you can tell it is fake - I got it for me, not for you. I'm happy others can afford the real thing - got for it and enjoy every minute of it. But please don't knock those of us who can't. If we don't mind that it is fake, why should you?:hippie:

I gotcha Stefffe. lol but I don't think it will sink in.

I don't know why anyone would own the real thing, much less a fake. I suppose some people can tell the difference between a fake and a real LV purse, I don't need to because I can laugh equally at both of them.

You support criminal activity when you purchase a counterfeit purse, thats is why to some its a big deal. You can buy a purse inspired by a particular designer but when you purchase one that illegaly uses the LV, Gucci, Coach, etc logo's you are supporting criminals.

Awww, Steffie edited. LOL

I have 2 fakes, both are fake Coach. I didn't buy them because they were Coach or because they were fake, I got them because they fit needs I had at the time and I liked the silver on black design. one of them is a little clutch, it's great for fancy evenings out, it's small and easy to carry and matches everything, has a little strap that comes off so you can use it as a clutch or you can wear it on your shoulder. I love it. I also have a Coach sling style bag that is great to carry around the zoo or the aquarium, where I only need a few things on hand, it's comfy and it's cute. Besides who cares if it's fake? I know it's fake and I'm NOT being a poser, to say so is rude and judgemental.

And then there are those of us who laugh at anyone who spends $1000+ on a handbag. :rolleyes1 We all have different priorities. I'm in the camp that likes a good, quality leather bag and I don't give a rat's behind who made it, as long as I like it, and I certainly don't need to pay to advertise a product.

I honestly can't tell the difference between real or fake...it's simply not something I care about. My purse came from the gift shop in the Contemporary, I think I paid about $30 for it. I love it for several reasons:
1. It's black, so it matches EVERYTHING!
2. It has a subtle mickey head design on it, not obnoxious but if you look closely, you can definitely see it.:thumbsup2
3. Most importantly, it was only about $30!!!

I am one of those people that doesn't get why people spend so much on a purse. I've never had one wear out, I'm not out to impress anyone, it's just simply not a priority item for me.

So, back to the original question...the people buying fakes could easily fool me for a lot less money than someone who bought the real thing.

I meant fake as in 'designer inspired' but thanks for the extra info.

I don't understand why you would want to go all the way to the Caribbean to get a knock off, when you can get knock offs right here in the USA! ha ha

Good point, it's like buying scrapper pins to trade in the parks. I didn't even think of that. Of course when I bought my fakes I had NO clue what Coach purses even were let alone that there were fakes. LOL Both of mine are years old and I'm not a "purse person", I usually get mine at Target for $20 or less. LOL The 2 fakes I have I got at Claire's or Icing and I got them forever ago. :)

I don't buy fake designer purses. If I want a Coach bag, I go to the outlet and shop their sales. If I want a Vera Bradley, I look for a sale and buy the real thing. If I just want a cheap, decent, "designer inspired" purse I go to Kohl's or Penney's.

Oh, gotcha. I'm with you then. I don't care if someone wants to buy a designer inspired rather than the real deal. If they like the bag then thats what matters.
In case you couldn't tell, I do have a problem with counterfeits
