Knock off North Face Jacket question

Okay. So my son, 20, wants a new North Face jacket for Christmas. And he didn’t want the $100 jacket. No. He wants the $165 jacket. Yes they are nice jackets but he does not take care of his stuff at all. Now he still has the one he got last year, the $100 model, and wears it when it is cold but it is looking worn so he needs a new jacket. Well I found a great deal online for a jacket and ordered it. Now I find out it is probably not a real North Face. I did not know this when I ordered it or I would not have ordered it in the first place. It has not come in yet but things I have read online tell me you really cannot tell a difference and the quality is really good. So what would you do? Just give him the jacket? Send it back (this may be nearly impossible since it is coming from China)? Buy another legit jacket and try to sell the knock off? I say give him the jacket and be done with it. It is crazy to pay that much for a jacket just because of the name. But wanted your opinions.

How do you know it's counterfeit? Personally, if I believed something I purchased was not what it was supposed to be, I'd demand a refund and send it back. I wouldn't be willing to spend my money on a a fake no matter how cheap it was.

I don't know it is fake. I won't know until I get it. It is coming from China, something I didn't know when I ordered it. The website is strange, misspelled words, links not working, etc. but so far the charge on my cc was correct and I am tracking it. I just did a little checking on google and found people saying North Face jackets from China are most likely knock offs. But those same people say they sure look like the real thing. Hey if it looks good that is fine with me. I can't see paying that much just for a label. But if it is well made, which all the posts say they are, then that is okay with me. I am afraid to try to return it cause it may get lost, be really expensive to send back, take forever to get my refund, etc. I did contact my cc company and they have put a dispute on the charge which means I am not being charged interest on it while this is going on.

It's coming from China from a website with misspelled words. It's fake.

I'd also be concerned about the fact this website has your credit card information, and would consider calling the issuer of the credit card you used for this counterfeit jacket, and ask them to cancel your card and reissue you a new one.

Oh I have already talked to the credit card company and they are watching it. I have a great credit card, Chase Saphire. It is the one they advertise that they actually answer the phone with a person when you call. They are wonderful.

I did this with a pair of "Uggs" last year, once I learned they were shipping from China....and they took forever to come, I realized I didn't even want to find out if they were the real thing. I emailed the website and told them I was returning the item before I got it. I called my credit card and explained and they refunded the money. And when the box came, I refused it. Never heard another word.

I'd be concerned about the credit card as well! I tend to be overly cautious when it comes to online purchases and mostly stick to well known companies. There's no way I would be comfortable giving my information to a site with misspelled words and broken links, especially if they had "too good to be true" pricing. I would be afraid it was just a phishing operation.

My son tends to be hard on his clothes as well. I got him a North Face jacket when he started middle school. (And I admit it was totally because of the brand name, since he was often teased about the Disney, video game and Think Geek T-shirts he was always picking out and I hoped the jacket would sort of counteract the shirts, which it did.:rotfl:) He wore it for 3 years and when he outgrew it and we passed it on to another family member it still looked almost new. In many cases you are paying a premium for a brand name item, but in some cases you are also getting the quality to match the price. I think that's the case with North Face products. A fake might be cheaper but it likely won't last as long or hold up as well. I see people post links fairly often on the Budget Board to good prices on North Face products on reputable websites, so if you decide to get a different jacket you might want to check on there before you make another purchase.

That said, it might not be a fake. If it looks real, it might just have been stolen from the production facility. I don't know about North Face, but I know that sort of thing happens with some other brands that are manufactured in China. That wouldn't bother some people, and others would not be comfortable buying something that they know is either counterfeit or stolen. You would have to decide for yourself what you are comfortable with.

The cc company said they have 15 days to get it to me. It has been 7 so one more week. If no jacket I will do just this. I honestly don't care if it is a fake if it looks good and does the job. Thanks.
