We are currently on our 3rd ABD trip. I am going to attempt a day by day play by play trip report. Today is our first day of Knights & Lights and we have met our guides Caroline and Adam. They are super nice and friendly and all is off to a great start.
We did a pre trip in Scotland after falling in love with the country last year on the Scotland Brave Adventure ABD. My mom is traveling with us and this is her first trip to Europe so I really wanted her to visit Scotland as well. Therefore, I will start with a recap of the pre trip. We arrived last Sunday and stayed 3 nights in Edinburgh and 2 nights in Inverness.
On our first night we went to the Real Mary King's Close. While we were there a woman on our tour approached me and said, " I think I know you." I was intrigued and she proceeded to tell me she read my Scotland ABD trip report last year here on the DISboards. Yup, I'm gonna say it ... It's a small world after all
Fellow DiSer Deborah on the left.
On our second day we did the Scotch Whisky experience. They hold the largest private collection of Whisky in the world. I am not a Whisky drinker, nor are my mom and husband. We enjoyed the tour very much though!
Love the bagpipes!
I could not find flights from Edinburgh to Inverness. We had planned to fly there and stay in a B&B since my mom had never stayed in one before. We were planning to do a day tour based on Diana Gabaldon's book, Outlander which is now a series on Starz. Wally (DH), me and my mom are huge fans. As it turned out our guide also does pick up and transport tours from Edinburgh to Inverness. I thought this would be way more entertaining so I booked that over taking a train. We stopped at several interesting sites along the way. Our guide was an absolute wealth of knowledge and kept us open mouthed and at the edge of our seats for 2 days!
THE Hamish
Scotland's landscape never fails to take my breath away.
Duone's Castle aka Castle Leoch in the Outlander show aka the castle in Monty Python's The Holy Grail
This yew tree is 5,000 years old!
Interior of Beauly Priory
18th century Highland village and also where the collecting of the rents and "waulking the wool" episode of Outlander were filmed.
18th century Highland weapons demo. This was so informative and entertaining!
Highland Targe
Basket of the broadsword the handle was made with Ray or shark skin for a good grip
Clava Cairns
Attempting to go through the stones
