We are currently on our 3rd ABD trip. I am going to attempt a day by day play by play trip report. Today is our first day of Knights & Lights and we have met our guides Caroline and Adam. They are super nice and friendly and all is off to a great start.

We did a pre trip in Scotland after falling in love with the country last year on the Scotland Brave Adventure ABD. My mom is traveling with us and this is her first trip to Europe so I really wanted her to visit Scotland as well. Therefore, I will start with a recap of the pre trip. We arrived last Sunday and stayed 3 nights in Edinburgh and 2 nights in Inverness.

On our first night we went to the Real Mary King's Close. While we were there a woman on our tour approached me and said, " I think I know you." I was intrigued and she proceeded to tell me she read my Scotland ABD trip report last year here on the DISboards. Yup, I'm gonna say it ... It's a small world after all :lmao:

On our second day we did the Scotch Whisky experience. They hold the largest private collection of Whisky in the world. I am not a Whisky drinker, nor are my mom and husband. We enjoyed the tour very much though!

Love the bagpipes!

I could not find flights from Edinburgh to Inverness. We had planned to fly there and stay in a B&B since my mom had never stayed in one before. We were planning to do a day tour based on Diana Gabaldon's book, Outlander which is now a series on Starz. Wally (DH), me and my mom are huge fans. As it turned out our guide also does pick up and transport tours from Edinburgh to Inverness. I thought this would be way more entertaining so I booked that over taking a train. We stopped at several interesting sites along the way. Our guide was an absolute wealth of knowledge and kept us open mouthed and at the edge of our seats for 2 days!

You are certainly filling up the memory banks with your trips. Very cool that your mom gets to experience Europe with great guides, and the ABD guides too. Please post a pic of your mom sometime during the trip.

I love Scotland as well, and would like to return soon and do an Outlander tour. Looking at your pix makes me want to return soon! If you see Jaime, say hi for me!

Any kids in your tour group? Interested in taking my kids (ages 7 & 9) on this trip.

Today was day 2 of our ABD tour. We began with a tour around the city on a double decker bus. Narrating our sights around the city and stops throughout the day was Sarah. She is a blue badge guide and a fabulous story teller. Her passion for the history during our tour of Westminster Abbey (our first stop) was palpable. I wish I would have had history teachers in school with an ounce of her enthusiasm.

We had a nice lunch with the group and then we had the afternoon and evening to ourselves. We opted to use that time to ride the London Eye. Our ABD guides, gave us the tickets yesterday but we decided to use them today. From lunch we walked to Charing Cross station just down the street and hopped on the London Underground to Waterloo Station. Our guides gave us very helpful maps of the Underground but I left my reading glasses at the hotel and couldn't read them :3dglasses

Afterwards we went to see the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studios. If you are a HP fan, I highly recommend it!

Isn't that double-decker bus amazing? Did you know it belongs to the guy who drives it. We had tons of folks taking photos in front of our bus.

You managed the London Eye AND the HP Studios tour in one afternoon? Good job! I agree, it's well worth it for any HP fans!

How many folks are on your trip?

Trying to! It is all about making memories! After losing my dad last month who was supposed to on this trip with us YOLO is the motto and make the most of it. He made my mom promise to go on this trip and not cancel before he passed. She is enjoying herself and very glad we are all here :goodvibes

It was great fun and our guide Hugh Allison with Inverness day tours was simply amazing! HA, I tried falling through the stones to find Jamie, but no dice. :confused3

Thanks! The Landmark is just gorgeous!

Great trip report so far. Love the Scotland/Outlander pics. Looking forward to more. Enjoy!!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Thank you. We didn't get to Inverness from Edinburgh until the early evening since we made some touristy stops along the way. We stayed at a B&B called The Ardconnel House which our guide recommended, plus had great reviews on Trip Advisor. I've been eating haggis everywhere in Scotland and they make the best I've tasted at breakfast! Our full day in Inverness was spent doing things related to the Outlander book which is set in Scotland. We did visit Culloden again as it is featured prominently in the story.

Hi! :wave2: Thank you! It is very posh and I am certainly enjoying it. The look on my mom's face when she walked in was priceless! I wish I would have had the camera out.

Not this time. We decided to try an adults only. The guides do a fabulous job with the kids from what I have seen on previous ABD trips and from what I have read on the trip reports here.

I didn't know that! It was pretty cool!

Yes. Thanks to Rapunzellover's advice about which stations and trains to get to the Warner Bros. Studios it was pretty easy and took less transportation time than every other method I saw.

I think we have 40.

Today we left the Landmark hotel and were led on our walking tour by Sarah. There was a nice surprise that I won't be spoiling here but everyone seemed to enjoy it. After the walking tour we headed to the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels and explore. Sarah regaled us with the history of the Tower and lunch was on our own. I especially enjoyed the idea that if the ravens ever leave the Tower it is prophecies end to fall along with the monarchy. Afterwards we headed to the Foxhills Manor House to check in and get ready for dinner.

So beautiful! I'd like to go to Scotland too. Especially for tasting that scotch :D

Oh, say "Hello!" to Adam for me! He was one of my Guides on K&L, too. Loved him!

Wasn't the poppy installation impressive? Quite the memorial.
