As I'm preparing to put my home up for sale I am noticing that I have a LOT of stuff. ;) I've just gotten used to seeing these things sitting around my home for so long that I don't even notice them anymore. Like the stupid decorative cutting board that has hung over my stove for years. I don't want to take that thing to my new house. LOL My plan is to declutter & get rid of knick knacks. Instead of a Christmas wish list this year I'll have a Christmas "please don't" list. No knick knacky stuff please! ;) Does anyone else have this problem?

OH I know... we got new carpet back in March and I had to pack everything up and get it out of my rooms that were getting carpeting. The only things that made it back into the rooms were the furniture, I realized that the BOXES of "JUNK" looked better in the boxes! :p

I know exactly what you are talking about. I recently moved. Before the move I basicly did a "Clean Sweep" of my whole house. Then I had a huge garage sale. Not only did I get rid of a lot of "stuff" but I made $1,400. I have made a vow to myself that I won't allow my new house to have so much "stuff".

Good luck!

I have a ton of these things. But most of them are collectibles, and not kitschy looking.

I completely understand. I am just now decluttering our place of unecessary things that are only taking up space. I call them dust collectors - cause that is all they are good for half of the time!!

We're going to be painting the interior of our house in a few weeks. A lot of things will be put away at that point and not brought out again.

I'm moving too, and am doing some SERIOUS decluttering. In the 2nd half of my life, I plan on collecting "memories"... not things ;)

BTW, I just discovered freecycle.org - for things that may not go at garage sales and/or you JUST can't bring yourself to throw them out. It's broken down by cities/communities and you offer them free for pickup. I've given away about 10-15 items that were probably going to get trashed.

I.E.: I had a homemade plywood two-tier raised platform (used under my xmas tree to display Dicken's Village) that received 8 requests! Just had a girl scout leader (and mother of 6) who was thrilled to get a bunch of odds-&-ends crafts stuff.

It's amazing the things that get listed/taken on this site.
