Last night our cat, Chester (seen below) snuck out somehow. We didn't notice he was missing until after 11:00. From then until about 1:00 AM, we searched for him all over the neighborhood. Just as I was about to give up hope, the phone rang. DH found him on the next street over.

When he came home, he was covered in what looks like motor oil. After all of his traumatic experience, we didn't want to give him a bath, but we had to. I thought the oil would make him sick if he licked it off. We couldn't get it off too well.

Can anyone suggest something to remove it? I'm afraid he'll get sick. And you can only imagine what his beautiful white fur looks like now.:( I am so thankful he was found though.:D

I would call your vet or take him to a professional groomer (maybe at your vet's office?). This sounds like a job for someone who has the right tools and knows what won't make him sick.

Glad you found him. Our cat doesn't go outside and I know I would be a basket case if she ever got out.

Try DAWN dish washing liquid. Supposed to be a great grease breaker upper...LOL

Actually, you're right! I saw a commercial for Dawn that shows them using it to clean off birds that were covered in oil from oil spills. I have Dawn too. Maybe I'll try to wash him with it, but I will definitely call his vet too.

Thanks guys.

:D

Hey amid chaos - you should be a vet! I just got off the phone with him and he said to wash the cat in Dawn dishwashing liquid! I'll have to wake up my lazy DD so she can help hold him down. Baths are not his strong point.;)

Cairo did almost the same, except she didn't get out. I came home and she had knocked the liquid potpourri off into the floor and I swear it looked like she rolled in it!

First I called the vet in a panic and she said wash her in Dawn....LOL!

Oooh, good luck on the washing... Do you have a fairly thin pillowcase? You can stick Chester in that to wash him - less claw flailing. Otherwise, I recommend about 5 people to hold him down...

Yep! Dawn is what they used in Valdez.

I had several friends that went up to volunteer after the spill.

Also you may want to use a small wide toothed comb to get into the hair. Your kitty is not going to like you but he'll get over it.... eventually... lol

Your poor kitty!! Yes, Dawn is what's suppose to work without hurting the kitty. Good luck.:D

When we had to bathe our cat the vet suggested putting a window screen at the bottom to the tub or sink and putting the cat on that. The cat will rip apart the screen but not your arms.

Make sure you dress properly for the kitty bathing.
