My poor near-toothless kitty has to have her remaining 4 molars extracted today. We adopted her as a semi-feral cat after her owners died and left her homeless. She joined a pack of ferals and contracted some nasty dental diseases that resulted in us having to remove most of her teeth. We had hoped to have save her back molars, but those have to get removed today.
She's going to be one hurting kitty when she comes home tonight.

So, if you have a soft spot for animals, send some healing thoughts to our little Merryl today.

What a pretty Kitty!

I adopted a cat that had lost most of her teeth. She mostly just licked the gravy from her canned food and called it dinner. She lived to be 19. Hope you kitty does just as well!

I just got little Merryl home and she's doing well. A little drunk and slightly freaked out because she's disorientated, but that is to be expected. She's on a lovely strong narcotic for pain and a nasty tasting antibiotic. Why they can't make tuna flavored antibiotic, I'll never understand.
All the rest of her teeth were removed and a significant chunk of infected jaw bone too. Poor kitty, she must have been so uncomfortable.
I'm hoping that the other three cats will leave her alone tonight and she'll get a good night's sleep and feel much better tomorrow.

Thanks for the support and good wishes!

Having just been thorugh a kitty surgery at our house I know just how you are feeling! Sending healing prayers your way.

Sounds like some kitty is going to get a big bowl of cat milk when she's feeling better

 keep us posted as to her recovery

Thanks everyone. Last night was a bit of a difficult night as Merryl had to sleep under the covers and smashed right up next to my belly all night long. I think she was cold from the anesthesia wearing off and probably in pain despite the meds that they gave me to give her.
She slept great, I dozed off and on, not wanting to move to disturb her! It reminded me of co-sleeping with Lillian for the first 4 months of her life! The baby slept great, while I was listening to her every breath. heh

Today, she seems totally back to herself, although grumpy about not being able to go outside.
Amazing how much these little critters impact our lives. :)

What great news - glad to her she's doing well after her surgery. :goodvibes

since she is now toothless - I am curious about the diet she'll be on. Will she be able to eat regular cat food?

So happy to hear that your fur baby is doing well after the surgery - I have two beautiful little ones myself. I will keep her in my thoughts for a strong and speedy recovery. :cat:

She's been mostly toothless for the past 3 years and has eaten normal kitty crunchy kibble and wet food as well. For now, until her gums heal, she's restricted to wet food.
She even catches and eats neighborhood lizards and birds!
