Well, the title pretty much sums it up. Since I last posted, we have acquired a new formerly feral kitten. She is black with a tiny white spot on her chest and she has bright orange eyes. She has been a handful, but has come a long way in the last 2 weeks, including learning what "no" and "get down" means.
Her name is Jack unless she has been bad and then it's Jack Jack. For anyone unfamiliar with the Pixar short Jack Jack Attack, watch it on the Incredibles dvd and I am sure that you will understand. lol
Last weekend we went shopping for what seemed like an eternity, in reality, it was a little over 12 hours with stops at home to care for animals and a meal thrown in there somewhere. We stopped at a pet store and Corey got to play with a beautiful Chihuahua pup that looked just like our boy. He came with a sticker price of $1399 and they were willing to come down to $799. Needless to say, even the intoxication produced by puppy breath didn't make us go for that. The main focus of our shopping was recliners. We have a need for some new furniture. The love seat has been destroyed by the cats and the chaise is (and always has been in my opinion
) ugly and outdated. So, we found a great Catnapper recliner at a no name furniture store in a nearby town. The color was all wrong, but it was super comfy. We then went to Bassett, Lazy Boy, and several other stores with very poor results. We ended up at American Signature Home. They had a very similar, although a bit upgraded, version of the recliner that we loved. They do not say that their product is Catnapper product, but this one is. I had remarked to Corey in the course of trying it out and looking for things, like animal escape routes if on were to get trapped underneath by accident, that the frame was a steel frame like the Catnapper. I did an internet search and the Catnapper folks make a Cuddler recliner and the American Signature folks sell the same recliner with something like Sonoma Cuddler for the name. The pictures are identical. Anyway, next Saturday, we are getting two new recliners and a new much needed smaller coffee table.
So, you think that we covered puppy, well, you would be wrong. We have been looking to add another boy to our house. Whether Deuce knows it or not, he really needs to have some time to hang out with another boy dog to sort of temper his overload exposure to three girls worth of estrogen induced madness. We have looked at pictures of animals needing to be adopted through rescues and I even looked to see if there was another animal at that sorry breeder that Gracie came from that looked like an animal that belonged to us. Sadly, until Thursday night, I saw no such dog. However, in a search for a "blue chihuahua" just to see pictures of pretty pups that I would never end up owning, I found some new classified site that had dogs listed in our area. I saw lots of cuties, but one struck us both as being beautiful and looking like it was supposed to be ours. A couple of phone calls and some family drama later, yesterday, we purchased him from a local breeder and because he is so beautiful, if he matures into a handsome boy, we are considering putting him out there for stud. This of course means that we are going to have to show him some if we want to prove his total worth. I am ok with trying to make that happen. I will have to get pictures of him posted at some point so that you can see just how cute he is. He's a dark chocolate and tan with some white.
The best part of the puppy, besides puppy breath, is that Gracie just loves him! She has been the first to warm to him and play with him. Deuce isn't too sure about the little guy yet. He is a bit jealous so far, but he will warm up. Just seeing Gracie's reaction to him and seeing yet another layer of her introversion lift, that was worth the price and no, it was no where near the $799 that the pet store wanted, but it was enough to keep most people honest and actually a lot less than I expected for such a beautiful animal.
We had a scare/family drama this past week as we found out that Corey's 19 year old niece is pregnant. We spent a couple of very anxious days with some idea that we might need to take the baby when it arrives in this world, but things are working out such that the baby will most likely arrive in this world to a mommy and a daddy that are married instead of just to the niece. The niece has had a lot of issues, but this pregnancy may actually be a good thing for her because she seems to be straightening up her act. I can't tell you how happy that makes both of us. While we love kids, we don't want a baby. With all of our animials, adding a baby into the house would be a disaster, not to mention the financial and emotional toll this would have on us.
As for the no trip until 2011, I am actually really ok with it. Our new babies need to be babied and our home needs the money more than Disney does. We will be there for the Magic Kingdom's 40th birthday, if plans go the way that we hope they will. Because of this, I haven't made the DIS a big priority lately. It's not that I don't love you guys, but I have my hands full. I do check in every now and then, but in the time it has taken me to type all of this, it's now time to go walk the dogs again. lol
Take care everyone! I will be around again soon.
