Just got back from a week at Saratoga, and thought I'd mention the two black kittens that seem to have taken residence on the grounds of Congress Park. They can't be more than 9 weeks old, all black with gold eyes. We saw several people put a bowl of water out for them, along with a jug of water, but I guess the Disney grounds people removed it all. We were coming back to our room with leftover beef stew, and one of the kittens was meowing, so we fed it some stew. He was starving, he couldn't eat it fast enough. One followed us for almost 3/4 of mile on our walk.

I'm not sure what will become of them, or how they even got there in the first place. Just a Heads Up for all you cat lovers staying at SSR.

As President of a humane society, it is a shame that no one has insisted that management call a local humane society to come and get them. I doubt they will survive under these circumstances. If anyone who is visiting SSR reads this, please let someone know they little guys need help!

I agree! Plus, it sounds like they are still young enough to be socialized. In a few more weeks, they will be well on their way to becoming feral cats. Someone needs to call in a local cat rescue group to try to trap them ASAP.

I found out from a CM at the Polynesian that abandoned cats/kittens are, unfortunately, not uncommon at WDW. This little one was out and about by Captain Cook's:

Disney CMs make a pass around every day or so, and after checking the lost and found logs (occassionally the cat is an escapee from a trailer over at Fort Wilderness), they "have a deal" with the local humane society to take them. Come to think of it, I think it's the humane society that rescues them right from the place they are (say, SSR or Poly). Sad to say, apparently WDW is seen as a good dumping place for locals to abandon animals.

I don't necessarly think these cats were dumped. They may be decendents of feral cats that have been there for years. In the early 60's Disneyland in California brought in a couple of pairs of cats to keep the rodent population down at Disneyland. (Because of all of the food establishments, it had gotten out of hand) I saw their decendants all the time when I was a Cast Member in the early 90's. Even now I occasionally see them around the Hungry Bear in Critter country. They look pretty healthy and seem to eat well. I would not be suprised to find the same thing at WDW. These cats are probably from a long line of cats that have lived on property for years.

Good grief! Between rabies and alligators around, it would be in everyone's best interest to have these animals taken away by the Humane Society.

The proper authority to deal humanely with the situation has been notified.

I do agree with the others, as with the birds, the ducks, the alligators etc. please do not feed the animals, you truly are not doing them any good and creating a nuisance for others.

We just got back fro the Paddocks section of SSR and a beautiful grey older kitten followed my daughter right into our villa. We called the front desk and they said they said ( believe it or not ) that we could either keep it until we checked out)! or they would call "pest control" ( it had crawled under the sofa bed and we could not intice it out all evening). Pest control did come ( they we wearing WDW Maintenence shirts) and got the kitten out. They said they were going to call the Humane Society. They also said that people "dump" kittens on property all the time. This one was definately NOT ferel, was obviously someone's pet very recently. My older daughters saw the black kitten the next night in the Congress Park section. They were much younger then "our" kitten.

Since resort guests are not allowed to have animals in the rooms I am not sure why the SSR front desk would suggest you keep a cat in there?

There are issues of no cat box, allergies for the next occupant, not to mention that no pets are allowed.

Sounds like somebody made a mistake there...

A few years ago we saw 3 kittens during an evening EMH at the Magic Kingdom around Aladdin's Carpet ride. It would around 1 a.m. and they came out of bushes - scared me half to death! I'm sure they found plenty to eat at the MK.

We were told by one of the boat drivers (from OKW to Downtown Disney) that there was a bobcat with two cubs that lives back near the tree house villas/water way. She said they were very elusive, though. But she had seen them a few times (around dusk).

We saw this little fella at the Poly in Feb! He came right up to us!

Did they really tell you to keep it in your room? I wonder if this is happening a lot (people bringing the cats into their rooms)

Our son is DEATHLY allergic to cats & the thought horrifies me :sad2:

In my 25 years of going to WDW, I've never seen a kitten and I've stayed all over. Good grief-now that we drive I'ld be wanting to bring the little critter home!! Already was thinking of naming the kittens at SSR "Sara" and "Toga".
My husband would kill me!!:rolleyes1

WE saw a black cat...not full grown but not a little kitten either. IT was also over at Congress Park and it stopped right in front of me and dh on a walk one evening and we were like 'GREAT...BLACK CAT CROSSES OUR PATH'. LOL Then everytime something happened that went wrong we would yell BLACK CAT. The kids even started doing that. It was funny.

Poster with kitten in our villa here...When I called the front desk the CM said "we can send pest control,or , let's see, your're checking out on the 24th, if your kids are having fun playing with it,you can just keep it around" Maybe she didn't understand that it was IN our room.

boy generally stray cats come up to me... but I never even seem at Disney.

my cat got lost in St augustine and since before then we were at WDW - I looked for him at both places - never did find him.

spicey was much better behaved - he came and got me when both of them got out of the car.

okay so there is one at the Polyn and several at SSR.

I saw one of them! He hopped out of the garbage can right in front of me and startled me. It was right by the quiet pool. I sat in a lounge chair and he kept coming close to me, but was a little bit afraid. He rolled around and licked his paws. I was trying to figure out who to tell. I thought about going to the front desk, but then I figured he probably wouldn't be there when anyone came back. I was trying to get him to come to me, but he only came so close. Then he ran off. I went back several times to see if I could find him. I have been thinking about that kitten since I have been home, wondering if it is O.K. It has been bothering me!:sad1:

I should have called someone!

We are SSR bound, I want to see the kittens! I miss my cats so much when we are on vacation.

We just got back from TN where there was a feral female in the wooded area. I got some turkey and got her to come within 2 feet of me to eat. While she was eating and I was watching, my husband, way up on a balcony, points behind me. I turned around and it was a skunk about a foot away! I jumped up and ran and did not get sprayed (thank goodness).

We have adopted a feral cat here at home. Gotta love em!
