I have always fed my big babies Meow Mix but according to my Vet, I should use Science Diet. He says its much healthier for them and there is less smell from the litter box. Isis's breeder was feeding him Eukanuba....anyway just curious as to what you feed your kitty.

Iams... recommended by a breeder of an old cat that is no longer with us and by our vet :)

Science dry
Fancy Feast canned

Science Diet dry for kittens and assortment of Fancy Feast canned.
Also, Pounce,for treats!

I feed them Iams dry and every once in a while give them Iams canned food.

The food does not come out stinky and it is better for them.

I have fed my babies both Cheaper cat foods from the grocery store such as meow mix, and nine lives and also more expensive foods such as Nutro. Well I am not saying this will be true for everyone but I use the Nutro I believe it is the Natural Choice. It is in a mint green bag. I will never use the cheaper brands again. THere is less fighting over the food dish, less litter changes and they actually go through much less food!!! FOr us it is well worth it!!

A high quality food is made with better ingredients which are more digestible by the cat, so although it appears to be more expensive, it isn't because it is more digestible so your cat gets more of the nutrients it needs from a smaller amount so you buy it less often and less comes out in the litter box. You can see this by looking at the ingredients on a bag of premium food and a bag of Meow Mix.
The first ingredient listed is the main ingredient, the second one listed is the second largest ingredient, etc. Your first ingredients should be "chicken" or "chicken meal" since poultry is the most highly digestible source of protien for dogs and cats. Corn or soybean is not as digestible for pets, so they have to eat alot more to get all their nutrients.

Also, premium cat foods are lower in ash and magnesium. High levels of these can cause painful urinary crystals especially in male neutered cats.

Premium foods with a poultry base are also higher in Linoleic/fatty acids which helps keep the dander down. This is especially helpful if you have a family member or friend who is allergic to your cats. I am actually allergic to cats who eat low quality diets, but have no problem with cats who are fed a premium diet.:D

Our vet recommended Iams dry kitten food for Mushu's first year, and now we give him the adult dry Iams cat food. He seems to like it, he's very healthy, and his litter doesn't smell at all, so we're all happy :p

Once in a while we'll give him a Pounce treat.

Eukanuba dry food and Nutro wet food (the wet food in the foil pouches).

For dry, Spanky gets Meow Mix with the seafood middles. He won't eat the regular Meow Mix. For wet, he eats the Whisker's Pouches.

Another IAMS fan here!

Warning: your cat may get finicky and so used to Iams that he'll refuse to eat cheaper stuff (like Meow Mix) if you try to switch

We use the Wal-Mart Brand of Seafood Mix. I don't recall exactly, but it is the one in the green bag.

About the odor, what is interesting is that I never noticed any odor from our older cat - Lily. But you sure know when our younger cat - Ty - goes! And they eat the same food.

I STILL say its a MALE thing! ;)

Isn't it always a male thing...LOL!!

I think I am going to go ahead and buy some Science Diet from our vet for my older cats and see what happens. They loved the Eukanuba Kitten food!

I am a firm believer in GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). Eukanuba is expensive, but she eats much less of it, and the litter box is definitely better off without the cheap stuff. :p

fancy feast, it must be the grilled flavors. Whiskas nuggets. Tarter control treats. Science diet.

Iams dry since kittenhood. The vet told us to use Iams or Eukenuba and never feed her wet food, only dry.

As a kitten - Iams kitten

As an adult - Iams weight control with hairball remedy. (You have to be careful with Maine Coons. They can get huge pretty quickly.)

I would NEVER feed any of my animals anything but the "good stuff." It costs more up front, but it really makes a difference with the waste situation. Less filler/fiber means less stinky stuff. They also absorb more nutrients from this type of food.

The breader of my Ragdoll fed him Eukenuba kitten formula. She actually fed all her cats that, said there were more nutrients in the kitten formulas than the cat formulas. I've since switched to Science Diet, and my kitty LOVES IT!!!! I also don't feed wet food, been told by both my breeder and my vet that it's actually bad for purebred cats.
