My kids and I have a few nights before my husband arrives and I'd like to make them easy, fun, and relaxed... I was thinking that it would be fun on our Epcot night to head over to Beaches and Cream and let the kids have the Kitchen Sink for dinner.

Any thoughts?

You're on vacation. If you want to allow your kids to eat ice cream for dinner then go for it. That's totally your decision. You'll be the favourite parent for a while if you follow this plan. :goodvibes

I wouldn't do it with my kids just because they don't handle too much sugar in one sitting very well and definitely need a protein with each meal or else they're getting sick (they have health issues). You know your kids and you know how yours will handle that much sugar all at one time.

Are you staying at a Crescent Lake resort? Remember you have to get those wired kids back to your resort after eating all that sugar. Are you sure you want to be corralling them without your DH while they're on a sugar high? Yikes!!

We did it as a lunch so the kids could run it off before bed time. It was a huge hit. They still talk about it.

I was thinking about doing this with my kids on our next vacation too!! I like PP's suggestion of doing it for lunch because my kids are 6 and 8 and would need the extra time to settle down before bed. When I made this suggestion to DH he was decidedly against it (for himself...he doesn't think ice cream a good "substitute" for dinner) so if I were in your shoes, with no DH to object I'd do it for sure!

Go for it! When we went in April for dinner we had had a really small lunch (PBJ & chips) so we split a double burger and then 4 of us shared the Kitchen Sink - it was fun & yummy! We then went back on another night and just had No Way Joses for dinner - really good!!! Enjoy!

Ok, I'm waiting for that one post where someone will come on here and say what is wrong with the parents for allowing their kids to eat ice cream instead of a broiled fish and steamed broccoli dinner........ I am not that post.:lmao:

I say let em at it and have fun. It is a vacation. :thumbsup2

I wish you were MY Mom! :rotfl:
That is a wonderful idea......that kind of free spirited fun is what vacations are all about to me.....leave the rules behind (within reason of course!) and ENJOY!

Take care:goodvibes

See in my home it's my husband that would love to eat and serve ice cream for dinner. He'd say something like, "It's got milk..that's good for you. Strawberries are fruit. That's healthy. Yep, it's a good dinner." :rotfl:

Yes, always eat a kitchen sink ha ha ha.

I am trying one by myself this September, even though my wife doesn't want me to do it :confused3

It's vacation--it should be all about relaxing/having fun/doing something different. Having the kitchen sink for dinner seems to fit all of these criteria so go for it.

when i we went down with some family we had the kitchen sink as a late dinner and it was great

Your kids will LOVE it! We do an ice cream dinner on the first day of summer each year and they talk about it all year long. As soon as it starts to get warm I start get questions about how long until summer!

I think it's a great idea. My DH travels a lot for work and one night at home I let my girls make their own sundaes for dinner. They loved it.

If it isnt an everyday thing, I think it is wonderful to allow the splurge! It will make a nice memory and is probably something they will tell their kids in many years!

I think it's a great idea. DH and I are talking about doing the exact same thing when we get to BC for our trip in October.

Enjoy. :thumbsup2

If it were me, I would try and get something somewhat healthy into them an hour or so before. Even if it were just a fruit and cheese plate (my kids' :lovestruc ) Otherwise, mine would be so hungry, they would eat so much ice cream quickly.. at least one of them would be sick within an hour. I can say this, not because I am the perfect mother who always feeds her kids perfectly healthy meals, but because I too have been known to say 'YES, It is Vacation', (too much chocolate milk before dinner arrived) and have learned the hard way.

Sounds like fun...if that is what you want to do then do it.

I guess I am the only one here, but I don't get what the big deal is about this dessert :confused3 When I was 8, I would have thought it was the coolest thing ever though :thumbsup2

As an adult, an adult who LOVES to eat large quantities of food, it makes me kinda queasy to look pics of it. Surely it doesn't taste good after the first several bites, right? I would rather have my own individual sundae.

I totally agree with you! Personally, I would much rather have my own dessert, but I have read that you can get your own bowls instead of just digging in.
