Kitchen Countertop

Thanks Mish and mom :) :wave2:

Micro, wow that looks great! Good for you!! and the price? Holy crow. Nice work! Did you just put it over the top of what you had or did you have to demo?

Mish, I think we're going with wood-look laminate for the floor. I found a nice Walnut colour that I like that is graded for kitchen and bathroom use. Its a fairly new flooring line from Bruce.

I think though that the flooring is going to have to wait until next Spring to be finished. I have to have a landscape guy come out and work on our yard next week, I have a guy coming tonight to give me a quote for the windows, the outside needs painting... the list is long. You know what its like when you move into an older house  there is a neverending list of things that need to be done. While I dislike the flooring in there its in decent shape and can wait a while yet. The countertops are pretty shot, though, knife marks and all. I think theyve been here for probably 20 years at least. So theyre a priority to replace.

Sounds like it will look awesome.

In due time it will all get done Binny. We built a home 10 years ago & we're still working on it & adding to it. We couldn't afford to have the builder install crown moulding so we've been doing that slowly & after 10 years, we finally got our front yard professionally landscaped. In 2005 we had the granite installed too. So by the time you're finished getting everything just right, it will be time to update again! That's how we feel! After 10 years, we've replaced all the lighting fixtures, faucets (& sinks now too due to the granite install), next is toilets..... It's just never-ending!

Have fun & keep us updated with pictures! Your home is very nice Binny. It will be worth all the blood, sweat & tears. ::yes::

Binny-
They actually recommend overlaying the old stuff, which had us concerned you could tell, but really unless you are looking for it, you can't. With the woodwork around the edge, it was nervewracking to use the router to trim it down to size without wrecking the trim, but DH did pretty well, we need to restain everything because they are kid worn, so it took off some stain but it should be an easy fix.

We did take off the old tile, and it was surprising how little mastic actually was on those tiles. It was just on the edges. If we could think of a use for them, we really could recycle them!

Looking at your counters it looks like trim would not be an issue for you.

When we were looking at counters, we found that the overlay corian type stuff cost as much as demo and new counters if I recall correctly, so don't assume that it would save you.

We were at a home show and got a price estimate with Corian, then a few tables later the overlay people gave us a bigger estimate. DH asked why, and they said because precise measurements would need to be taken, to which he responded, "Why wouldn't I just get it done right the first time for less money" which really irritated her!

I went with the sandstone corian look.

We just finished up our kitchen about 2 weeks ago and put in corian and I love it!!!

I got the Albalone (spelling??) I got the built in corian bisque double bowl sink. What a difference it makes we had a laminate that was about 8-9 years old.
