Kit Kittredge: Surprisingly Enjoyable!

My 12 yr old granddaughter is still into the AG dolls (she hides it from her girlfriends though, lest they think she's still a "baby". LOL Poor dear.).

I'm wondering if she's too old for the movie......but we're gonna go see it sometime soon. It'll make a nice gramma/granddaughter date.
Anyone taken a preteen and if so how did they like it?

I enjoyed it, and I am 36!! Seriously, anything where they might learn some history in a fun way, I would take them. My DD is 6, but we had a discussion about what really happened during the Depression and which parts were fiction.

Oh my- we totally enjoyed it- I brought me(38), DD10, DD8, DN6, and DN4-all enjoyed it. There were a couple of moments the 4 year old slid down in her chair (boredom???) and I told her to sit up- but no problems at all- REALLY great movie.
We went to see it ahead of our Christian American Girl Club. Yes, we have a club of homeschoolers in a Christian based organization. There are 20 girls in it. We get together about 6-7 times in the school year and base each meeting on a different AG character-snack, game, and craft. Plus we have a missions project. This is our 2nd year and things are getting more organized.

I started it with my daughters b/c the oldest is just growing up so fast and she had asked me to do it in the years before and I never felt we had time. So, being she is getting older and I want the "fast" part to slow down , just a little(not a lot, she is an amazing girl, if I can say so). She is 10 and her sister is 8, so i figure we can keep it going for about 3-4 more years , then others can take it over if it is still going strong.

Anyway- 18 girls and thier moms will be seeing the movie this upcoming Friday in thier Kit movie t-shirts and thier dolls with THIER Kit movie t-shirts!

.......everyone there was female too!.....

Did everybody have this same experience?

I want to take my nieces, but DS7 will not want to be left out of a movie outing. (And I don't think he would actually mind that the main character is a girl. - His cousins have come to movies with us before where the m.c. was a boy.) BUT he might be bothered if he was the ONLY boy in the theatre. Anyone else see a few little brothers or dads????

we saw a handful of boys in the theatre who all were with girls so probably same situation. However the theatre was only at most 1/4 full so there weren't tons of girls either. Almost every girl was holding a doll (other than my girls).

My dd8 had fun identifying all the dolls she saw but thought that she would rather eat popcorn and not worry about getting butter on her doll. She is more into the historical stories than the dolls themselves. At home she has asked me for more info on the Great Depression and can't wait to talk to my father who was a kid during that time (he is 84).

My 4 year old did okay but not perfect. My 12 year old nephew was horrified at coming to this movie with us so we planned to see Wall E with him instead.

We saw the movie on July 2nd. On July 3rd we got an email from Showcase Cinemas that Popcorn Club members get a free AG tshirt. That night a friend asked if dd8 can see the movie with her today. So later today dd8 is going a second time (very excited) and should also get a tshirt.

My DD7 got the shirt yesterday from Regal Cinema. We had her Birthday there and they gave her a box with Kit stuff...shirt, movie poster, stickers and trading cards and 2 postcards. We had no idea this was going to happen so it was a very nice surprise. I took 14 girls ranging from 4-11 and they all enjoyed the movie, me and DH really enjoyed it too!

MandM-mom- did you get tickets ahead of time for your group? We have so many going and want to sit together and I was wondering if we have to plan that ahead of time.

We cannot wait to see it with our club!

We got our shirts the hard way- I ordered the minimal $20(which wasn't hard, I got the mystery games) and added on 21 t-shirt sets at $10 each. Everyone has paid me back-thankfully- and we will be passing them out at lunch before the movie!

We went as a family so my DH was there and my 2 sons. My DS 3 was a little squirmy, but my DS 9 enjoyed it. He likes history. My DH was the only Dad, but there was one other brother.

We had booked ahead of time, our theatre is really good at reserving spots for groups. When Ladder 49 came out we went as a large group from my husbands FD and they roped off a section for us ahead of time. I would just stop in and talk to the manager, the group may even get some extra perks too you never know:)

THANKS!!!

I am going to call them tomorrow or Tuesday! Tomorrow I work so it will be harder to find the time.

We went yesterday and in our group there were three moms, 3 9 yo girls, 1 9 yo boy, 2 8 yo boys, 7 yo girl, 6 yo boy. They were the only boys in the theater, but there were four of them and I don't think they noticed. They all liked the movie. It wasn't really a girly movie although the main character is a girl. Maybe your son can bring a friend?

She's DEFINITELY NOT too old! The dolls are actually targeted toward girls ages 10+, partly because of some of the disturbing historical content of the books. Younger girls can definitely enjoy them, my daughters got their first AG dolls when 6 and saw and enjoyed all of the other AG movies, but older girls will get MORE out of the story line due to history class, etc. Take her and enjoy! Sadly, its not showing around here.:sad1:

We have the same problem of it not showing close by. When we saw it with my neices, we drove 45 minutes(but thankfully it was on the way to drop off DN6, so the gas we now have to think about, was not just for the movie!)

Our AG club will be driving 20 minutes to see it on Friday as it opened a bit closer on July 4th, instead of the 2nd.

Lori

What a great movie! All 3 (DN10, DN9, and DS7) enjoyed it, and so did I. The history content was just the right amount for them, as well.

Thank you to those who reassured me about taking DS. He ended up not considering it too "girly" at all, as the 3 mystery-solvers were 2 girls and a boy, just like our group!

For those who were wondering about taking dolls, we didn't see any. (But we did sit rather far forward, so there may have been a few that came in after we got there.)

I definitely recommend the movie.

I took my boys 8 & 5 to see the movie saturday and we all loved it! It was not "girlie" at all...a very good clean family movie.
Lori

I agree...this is a clean, fun family movie. DH was DREADING going to see it with DD and i, but even he enjoyed it. There's no swearing, nothing more risque than a kiss on the hand and the cast is wonderful. I highly recommend it. oh, and i think every girl in the theater brought at least 1 AG doll with her (including my DD), lol. One little girl, who looked to be about 5, came in with a bitty baby under each arm...so cute, hehe.

I am going to post a pic of our club at the movie as soon as photobucket uploads them!

We had a girls day at the movies, my DM,DD8,DS, and DN6 went and we all loved it. My mother really enjoyed it, it brought back some memories for her. My Niece who is not yet really into the AG yet really liked it. My DS said she didn't realize how much truth (about depression, foreclosures) that would be in it. I told her the books are that way. She was very impressed. I told my DH that it was almost like watching a story about what's going on today-lot of people losing thier jobs, foreclosures, depression. I know the dolls are costly but to me its worth it, my DD8 enjoys the books and getting something else out of it rather then what the Bratz dolls can give.
