Kingdom Tower becoming Bay Lake Tower

Or just Magic Kingdom Tower. Bay Lake Tower is fine though.

The Villas at Disney's Contemporary Resort

:thumbsup2

I know Disney itself doesn't typically use the acronyms when referring to resorts, but I have to wonder if they weren't wary of the resort being branded "VCR" by the Internet community.

Even "Contemporary Resort Villas" is dicey. That's "CRV", which I believe is (was?) also the name of a vehicle manufactured by Honda.

EDIT: Another possibility...information suggests that Disney will eventually wreck the South Garden Wing and build a second DVC tower. If that happens, they need some method of distinguishing the two buildings other than "the one on the right" vs. "the one on the left."

The naming system isn't really any different than Kidani Village vs. Jambo House at AKV. Comtemp may eventually have "Bay Lake Tower" and "Seven Seas Lagoon Tower."

Okay...since we're all being silly...

Wonder why they didn't consider "Magic Towers Villas" and then it could be called "MTV???" :lmao:

Hey...I kind of like it!!! :goodvibes

Everyone would be calling MS and saying " I want my MTV! " :thumbsup2

The north and south wings were originally called Bay Side and Lake Side in 1971. I like the name as it hearkens back to that history, although I doubt it was a conscious decision. Even I cant remember which was which though...

Sorry, but this new name is even more offensive than the last; I'm allergic to bay leaves and am deathly afraid of the water.

You'd think Disney would be a bit more sensitive toward herb-intolerant non-swimmers.

MTV is part of Viacom, which also owns CBS. Disney owns ABC.

As Captain Hook says..."That would be bad form." :rotfl2:

Speaking of ABC, Disney is definitely doing an Extreme Makeover - Hotel Edition on that North Garden Wing. I can just see Ty talking to Disney execs about all of the asbestos, and the out of date furnishings in their beautiful hotel next to the Magic Kingdom.

That was exactly what crossed my mind when I first heard the news about the name "Kingdom Tower". VCR sounds "old tech" and CRV is a Honda SUV so neither acronym works well but I prefer CRV to BLT!

By the way, I feel like I'm talking to a celebrity here!! :worship:

I think this would be fine too! :thumbsup2 But IMO, I do like the Bay Lake Tower far better than Kingdom Towers. I never thought of the Kingdom Hall, but always thought of the creepy Stephen King Kingdom Hospital. Yikes!!! :scared1: I can't get it out of my head now!!! And if they tear down the south wing I kind of like the thought of Seven Seas Lagoon Tower.

If they worried about such things, do you think they would have ever creased All Star Sports :)

...Of all the STUPIDEST, DUMBEST, most REDICULOUS marketing decisions I have seen in my entire life, this has to represent a new, unprecedented low; even for Disney...
At least the new name doesn't have the word "magic" in it!

 i've been edited more than once when i forget to correct while posting:rolleyes1

as for Magic Tower...already spoken for @ DLH;) Magic, Dreams, and Wonder (formerly Marina, Sierra, and Bonita). OT - evidently, rumour is that the DCL Magic & Wonder may be heading permanently to CA once the new ships are built as a tie inpopcorn::

Some people think that the CR looks like a toaster so for those who like their BLT on toast, there's kind of a theme here.

Now as a vegetarian, I make BLTs with veggie bacon, a VBLT if you will, so I think the new building should be the Villas at the Bay Lake Tower -- it's vegetarian friendly!

Perfect! Our family has always called the Contemporary "the toaster." You're right, it's a theme! :rotfl:

Have to say I'm very happy they listened and Disney changed the name from Kingdom Towers. I think I was one of the first here to post that the name just jumped out at me as another version of Kingdom Hall. I couldn't believe no one at Disney had thought of that similarity but it seems they hadn't until it was pointed out to them. I like BLT much much better.

THANK YOU DISNEY!

I really disliked the name...

Disney's "Bay Lake Tower" instead of "Kingdom Tower" at the Contemporary?

Looks like Disney may have changed the name of the new time-share tower the company is building next to its Contemporary Resort.

"Bay Lake Tower" has replaced "Kingdom Tower" as the name of the project, at least in filings with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Tim, I think you've hit the nail on the head here. :thumbsup2 If BLT sells well, and the demand is there, they may just need another tower to replace the South Wing, and a distinguishing name to go with it.

Kingdom Hall never even came to mind when I heard Kingdom Towers.

Why not just Contemporary Tower? They seem to want to keep Tower in the name. Personally, I think Contemporary Villas would be fine.

I found the old name just kind of bizarre. And really thought the watchtower was going to be delivered to my door each day!

Anyone have :surfweb: :cool1: :dance3: recent pictures, last one i saw was end of april beginning of may. Getting excited with each glimpse.

still want Disney towers.

or even better Walt Disney Towers!!! okay that might not be possible - given that few if any Disney family members are still active.

not sure but think DVC and CR are still fighting. So definitely understand not wanting to use CR in the description.

also though that the south wing was going to CR not DVC, and yes in a few years it will also be a tower. - okay rumor!!!

that will be for suites for the convention area as well as guests to WDW.

DT or WDT - aren't anything are they??? well guess everything is something.

thanks poohstx!!!
