I just watched it yesterday. It took WAYYYYYYYYYY to long for KK to come on screen. Also what about all those weird cave people ?? They freaked me out and we sooooo violent! And whats with all those creatures and bugs and stuff, those attacks went on forever! I liked the movie, I just wasn't expecting so much violence by other than KK. I think it really went over board with killings.

Poor MIL she got it for all the gk's of all ages and when I told her she was like whaaaaaaaaattttttt :rotfl2:

I feel like Peter Jackson as a director either elongates a scene and it's perfect, or directs just to see himself direct. There were scenes (ie. the bugs) that could have been eliminated or shortened, but there were other scenes (pre Kong scenes) that really added to character development. The cave people scared the crap out of me too. ;)

..... I SO agree with you! The director really over-indulged with that scene.

Overall we enjoyed this movie, but it would have been better (and shaved off a few minutes!!) with editing that scene.

I agree with you on the bug scenes. But I think the scenes leading up to King Kong's appearance were necessary to show the desperation of the times and the motives for a lot of the characters to do the things they did.

months after seeing the movie, I'm still disturbed by the memory of the cook beign eaten by the fluke/worm!!!

When I saw this movie, I wondered about the people getting eaten by the bus, so I was reading the film's credits on Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) and found that one of the people credited had this written about him:

Being the producer of King Kong (1933), he personally removed a clip from King Kong in which four sailors, after Kong shook them off a log bridge, fall into a ravine, where they are eaten alive by giant spiders because, when previewed in January 1933, audience members either left in terror or talked about the ghastly scene during the entire movie.

Since director Peter Jackson is a big fan of the 1933 version, I believe he tried to put in a similar scene and knows that today's audiences wouldn't be as "grossed out" having seen things like Terminator, Halloween, slasher movies, killer bees, etc., and modern viewers know it's not real. My mom (born in 1933) still talks about the original King Kong and how she was repulsed by Kong stepping on people, which does not look at all believeable to me when I watch it today. LOL! Anyway, I thought this was an interesting bit of trivia. The writer/producer that this quote refers to is Merrian C. Cooper.

-Dorothy (LadyZolt) (who could live the rest of her life without seeing another "giant bug" scene)

In the original it takes them forever to get to the island too.

I did think the movie was drawn out though...as good as a director as Peter Jackson is, like all great directors, he needs a producer and studio execs to reel him in. The movie basically panned back and forth between King Kong beating something up, roaring in agony, and Naomi Watts making her tragic face to the camera over and over for 3 hours.

The original was to have a giant bug (spider) scene so it's not huge change the new version has one. In fact they wanted to make the original an epic, much longer film but budget issues kept that from happening.

The movie I saw had Jackson staying true to the original in every way. I see a lot of things written about it that make me wonder what people thought they were going to see. :confused3

Sorry, I could not stomach the beginning story line. Jack Black and making a movie and then hiring some stranger off the street to star in it.
I got as far as the restaurant scene in the beginning.:lmao:

Might try it later....so all hope is not lost. Thank goodness for Netflix.
