King Bed...advice?

I know at some resorts they charge more for a king bed, like in CBR so we def got one there, but when we stayed at CSR we didn't get one even though we requested it! We were just told they were sold out and that's that. I'm booking WL and you don't have to pay extra for a king, but we are going in July which is a pretty busy month and I'm scared we are going to get there and they're going to say they have no king rooms left! Whenever this happens to me and I call the front desk they say it's only a "request" so it can't always be honored, but this is our vacation, I don't want to sleep in a small bed. I know you spend very little time in the room anyway but I like my big beds! Any advice on how to guarantee a king bed?

I made a request for King bed at Beach Club and Yacht Club.... both times I got the King bed, but I did have to wait till late in the day at Yacht Club even though I got there at 8:00am. I got the impression they didn't have many available.

I tried to pick more adult oriented resorts (Yacht Club) guessing I'd have a better chance.

Going to Poly next trip, they don't have any King beds (unless you upgrade to the more expensive rooms) so I guess it will be queens for us.

There's no way to guarantee it at WL. I would just make sure the request is on your reservation. When you check in, say it again to the CM. If they say "sorry they are sold out" then say "Can we wait for a room with a king bed that might be available later today or another day?". That's really all you can do.

If you book a one-bedroom villa at WL you'll have a guaranteed king bed. Short of that, I don't know how to ensure you get one.

I actually never thought to ask to wait for an available room or switch rooms later on. Thanks for the advice! And wow, I never knew that about POLY! Thanks for the heads up!

It is just that a request. They don't have many rooms with king size beds. When I stayed at the Yacht Club Resort at club level, I requested a certain room number & since I go there a lot I got to know the person who assign the rooms so she emailed telling me that I had my room & it was not to be given out to anyone else. I checked in at 7am & was told yes I got my room that I requested but it wasn't ready yet. I told them fine just give me the keys to the parks & my dining. I went & ate breakfast downstairs & then went over to MGM back when it was MGM then over to Epcot to have lunch a rather late lunch. Came back & room was ready. There was a couple sitting next to me at the desks who wanted two queen size beds as he had a King size. When he heard my room was ready he told the girl to give me his room & mine to him. I told the CM it was my room & it was given to me before I got there. The guy said he was here before I was & he should get it.The CM told him no that I checked it at 7am that morning & the room was mine & it was a non smoking room which I needed due to medical reasons. He was a smoker so he couldn't have had that room any way. Needless to say he was mad but it was my room wasn't giving up for a king size bed & a smoking room at that.:rotfl2:
At least you get two queens not standard size beds. If you are set on a king size go to the GF & stay in club level but in a honeymoon room. But it is like $$$$$$$$.

I thought at CSR you could pay a little more for a king room :confused3

I know when we booked at CSR we didn't have the option like we did for CBR to pay more for the king, I wish we did :(, they just said we can put in a request for it, which we didn't get up getting anyway. Then again, it's a big convention hotel and there was a conference going on while we were there so most of the king rooms probably went to them. The two beds weren't so bad, but I hate walking into the room with an unused bed LOL.

My tips would be to check in as early as possible and let them know you'd be willing to wait. Make sure "king bed" is noted on your reservation with no other requests and mention it again at check-in. If they don't have one for you on the day you check-in, ask to see when you could be moved to a room with a king bed.

It's all going to come down to luck and timing... so keep your fingers crossed.

If a king bed was "that" important to you, I'd consider looking elsewhere. The 1-bedroom villas are a definate option for recieving a king bed, and you might be able to get a decent rate at OKW or SSR.

The only way to guarantee a king bed is to make a reservation at a moderate resort-POR, POFQ, CBR or CSR or book the very expensive rooms like a 1 bedroom villa.

Best way to get a king bed is to buy DVC and always reserve a one bedroom or higher. Second best way is to book a king room at a moderate resort - not request but book. I'm guessing when you booked CSR there were no king rooms available and that's why you weren't given the option

We are looking to stay at CSR in April and all that is coming up as available is a king room. At CBR we were offered king, but it was cheaper to not accept that option.

Most of WL's King Rooms are Ground Floor Handicaps in awful condition - I encountered mold, a worn bed, and other issues at the room there.

It took a lot to get them to move us including getting a second manager involved.

I found the exact same experience as Yearbook50 wrote above. Wilderness Lodge is terrible in respect to king beds! I stayed twice at Wilderness Lodge, and I never even asked for a king bed, but got assigned one anyway. Both times I got rooms on the ground floor and were handicapped-assessible, with bad views, and one room was very worn. I personaly perfer a tub and a balcony for privacy and views, so the rooms were not to my liking (ok, I really HATED those ground floor rooms - felt like I was banished to the dungeon or something!). :confused3

The second time I got the ground floor king HA room, I begged to switch and got 2 doubles on the 3rd floor with a balcony, and thank goodness as I loved that room. :)

If you want a tub and a balcony and a nice view, WL is not the place to hope for a king bed!
