I posted this on the CB but thought it might be more useful here where it won't get lost.
Why be kind? Surely, you don't have to be. Especially when others aren't kind in return.
But in fact, kindness may benefit you.
Studies have shown our bodies release endorphins when we show an act of kindness. And further, with that same act of kindness, endorphins are released as well in not only the recipient, but those who observe the kindness, too.

Routinely practicing kindness has additional health benefits to you as well.
I attended a conference the other day and this was brought up. I thought maybe others might find it good food for thought, too.

Dr Herbert Benson, a Harvard cardiologist who has been involved in scientific research for over 30 years, tells us that... when we carry out an act of kindness, our body rewards us by creating a ‘feel good’ sensation, which boosts self esteem and well being. This experience has been termed the helper’s high. The response is triggered when the body manufactures chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins are naturally occurring morphine-like substances that create a feeling of bliss within us.
