Hello :goodvibes

Hope nobody minds me coming over from the DLP board to ask a question.

I'm going to be in England next week and I'm planning on buying a Kindle.

I saw that Amazon have refurbished 3G ones for roughly £40 cheaper than a new one. The only difference is that you just get an USB cable and not an power adapteur (or is it plug ?)

I was wondering if the "adapteur" from an Ipod or Ipad would be ok and work or is it really necessary to have the Kindle one ?

And if they do work are the USB cables on Ipads/Ipods and the like standard the world over and say I bought my Kindle in the UK and my Ipad in the US and my Ipod in Europe they would all be interchangeable adapteur/plug wise I'd just need travel plug thingys for each county or am I totally on the wrong track :confused3

Thank you very much for any help :thumbsup2

The Kindle is relatively sensitive in regard to the watt output of the charger. Not that it would break but I noticed that if I use the iPad charger with the higher watt output, the Kindle won't charge. With the iPhone charger it's a bit hit and miss, the only way it really charges every time is when I use the original Kindle plug. Are you sure that it is not included even if it is a refurb model?

Thank you for your reply :)

According to the annonce it doesn't seem to be coming with a plug, just the USB cable

So I'd be better off buying the full price one maybe rather than taking the risk :confused3

It's strange as when I look at the .com site even the new ones aren't sent with plugs to France, you have to buy them separately which is impossible to do here and that's why I hoped the ipad/pod solution might work.

It seems that they include fewer things with every version.

Version 1 had the display cover included. They got rid of that in Version 2, which I bought, however, that one still included the plug, even though it was a US version even when ordering from abroad.

Now they got rid of the charger as well, no wonder they can still lower the price :-)

And maybe the newer version isn't as picky with the power source as version 2.

I have a USB plug charger and that works fine with the kindle cable. Looks very like this one. Does my phone, mp3, Palm etc

Thank you for that :goodvibes I've seen some like that on ebay.
I'm going cross eyed looking at all the different plugs as I need either one for the UK, 1 for France or just the UK and I'll put an adapteur behind it but with a 3 in 1 travel charger I'd be well away

I've order the refurb and it should be waiting for me next week so I'll see if I need to charge it straight away or not :confused3
