Kindle Owners- question about paying for books

I am thinking of getting my dd a Kindle for Christmas. She loves to read and loves to have the latest tech gadgets so its kind of a perfect gift for her. I already have an Amazon acct, but I don't want her to have access to and was hoping I could set up her own acct and fund it with gift cards. Would she be able to pay for ebooks doing that or does a CC need to be tied to the account in order to purchase them?

I have a barnes and noble nook and I use GC's all the time to buy books. You can also get books from the library with the nook..

Everything I've seen you do need the CC attached to the "1-click" settings in your account. I have not seen a way to pay with gift card because you do not go through a checkout page. Once you click buy, it automatically completes your purchase bypassing all other purchasing settings.

I've had a couple of gift cards recently and looked to buy books on it myself, but never could do it.

You could attach a prepaid Visa/MC, but I understand there are high fees that come with those cards.....

you can absolutly use a gift card. I buy one directly from amazon (clearly), email it to myself), then just add it to the account. When you buy a book it comes off the gift card first, if there is no money it goes to the default credit card.
We have 6 different kindles on our account, so we all work off gift cards. we just keep track of what we put on the account, and what we spend. It is very easy to do.

You load the gift card first and then it should work.

yes you can set up her own acct and jut use the gift card # as method of payment.

I have a Sony reader and have the capability to do this and my library was supposed to be offering ebooks starting last March but so far they aren't. I'm thinking they scrapped the whole idea
