DD11 wants one for Xmas, I don't know anything about either. Any help please????
She probably won't be reading books on it, aren't they kind of like a tablet??? So confused.

We have both. I use the nook more, but my wife and kids use kindles. I like the nook ergonomics and book format better. There is more support, I can get library books, I can get harder to find books.
The kindle can run anything from the google play store, but if it isn't on the amazon store you have to side load it.
At this point though if I was buying just one, I would go kindle fire with no hesitation. Better sales and prices on books, its android tablet so can run any android program on it, and I have concerns about B&N going out of business. Plus with Prime and native streaming it would be more useful.
The Nook hardware is marginally better but I prefer Amazon's content system by a landslide, especially if you're a Prime member.
There are dedicated reader versions and tablet-like versions of each.
OP has stated her daughter isn't interested in reading books on a tablet.
OP, if this is true, why consider either a Nook or a Kindle? I'd go for a full fledged tablet, such as an iPad.
Well, she has a desktop computer in her room, not a laptop. so i think she wanted it to be "mobile". So she mentioned a kindle or nook because her cousin has one, and I know they are cheaper then a tablet. i think an IPAD is alot more than the other.
I just bought an ipad mini refurb from apple.com for $249. My 8 yo granddaughter will be so happy.
